2 King Ranch Questions?

I have my new 2002 KR and have 2 questions. Do you guys have a switch to turn off the front passenger air bag? I don't. Do you have an ashtray? I don't. I dont need the ashtray but a little disapointed about the airbag shutoff, just in case I have a few of my friends kids one day.

SuperCrews and KRs don't have the airbag shutoff like the RCs and SCs do.

Are you sure you don't have an ashtray? It's a little cup thing in the in-dash cupholder. At least it's that way in the SCr.

Hey Triton,

Man, I never noticed that I didn't have a passenger side air bag on-off switch. That's it, I'm trading that sucker in.......just kidding. Thanks Dennis!

I guess Ford's Engineers considered the interior of the Screw to be the same as that of a passenger car as far as safety equipment goes. But then again, there may have been more claims of folks forgeting to turn it back on and needing it than ones that had it on and wished they didn't. I would guess that is only known in the secret files at Ford.

If it were me carrying someone elses kids, and one had to ride in the front, I guess I would slide the seat back as far as I could to get as far away from the air bag as possible.

For the ash tray, Dennis is correct, you should have one in your in-dash cup holder. It's an insert that pops in and out that has a lid on it. If you're like me and don't smoke then these things usually get tossed the first day of ownership. Me, I've got two of them that are in a bag somewhere. I know you shouldn't have a problem finding one 'cause I think it's a common part used with lots of Ford products if not all of them.

Good Luck,

DaveMan

Question

Just a thought from a non-KR owner. Wasn't the airbag shutoff a stop gap before the next gen. airbags came out? It wasn't so much a choice, as a necessity, right?,,,,98

The reason they don't have the shutoff switch in the Supercrews is because there are full seats in the rear that are supposed to be used for the car seats. That's what the shutoff is for in the supercabs and regular cabs. Since you have to put a car seat in the passenger front seat, you have to have a shut off. That's Ford's reasoning behind getting rid of it. I think it looks cleaner without it anyway, as there's less cluttering up the dash.

I agree with dufunnel. It's a cleaner look without the shutoff. Toss the kids in the back seat....
