Removing F150 Tailgate Badge

I want to replace the regular F150 Supercrew badge on the tailgate with the King ranch badge as fitted on the fender.
What is the easiest and cleanest way to get the original off without marking the paint?

. . . a little heat . . . fishing line . . . watch out for the mounting studs . . . clean the goo off . . . install new one!

There are a number of places online that sell them cheaper than the dealers. I noticed that the 2002 KR's come with the tailgate badge on the tailgate. All the 2002's on my dealer's lot have them on them.

My question is that awhile back I made a custom hitch cover out of one of the fender badges, and the part numbers were different. I tried to get the part number for the one on the tailgate, but no one has it yet. Apparently it's too new. I assume the difference in the two fender emblems is that they are curved differently to contour the fenders, but I don't know for sure. I don't want to get one of these for the tailgate and not have it fit because of the curve to the thing being different.

Anyway, I have two online places that offer comparable prices on things. I buy through both of them all the time (I let them compete on prices ). www.oemfordparts.com and www.fordpartsnetwork.com

Any idea what the part number was they ordered you? I've been looking around for the part number for the one for the tailgate, but all I can find are the ones for the fenders, which are different for some reason. My area dealers don't have the new information yet. Typical Orlando, Florida parts departments... they don't know anything.

I rest my case on the 2002's coming with the tailgate badge on them already... In Lightguy's new thread about his digital pictures, there clear as day is the new tailgate badge. I knew I wasn't just seeing things.

Yes, saw one yesterday.

Yes I went down to a dealer here in the Rio Grande Valley yesterday and saw a 2002 Supercrew KR with the KR badge on the back.
I am awaiting my badge I bought off Ebay and then have to work out whether any mounting holes will be the same if I take the old badge off. If not do I mount the KR badge on the tailgate as well as the supercrew badge....I dont like that idea as someone who in general debadges vehicles....(The KR badge is different!)
In fact if Ford hadn't cunningly put the blue oval in a recess I would have that off too!
The KR badge has a curved surface but I'm pretty sure the back even on the fender badges is flat....I can't see Ford making 2 versions of the same badge.
Price quoted by the dealer was over $50.00......got mine for 30 plus mailing.

Lenticular,
i paid $36.55 including tax for my badge so i think your dealer is...no pun intended....screwing you....my '02 didn't come with the KR badge on the tailgate...i ordered one and they are putting it on for free...i am going to try and get them to repay me for the badge too...but the wholes for the F150 supercrew badge won't match the holes for the KR badge....that is what the ford body shop manager told me...i think i have some leverage with them paying for the badge since on the ford website the '02 KR has the badge and everyone with a '02 KR on this website seems to have the badge....

Dealer prices

Yes I noticed in your earlier post what you paid for your KR badge.
As I said I did not pay the dealer price but paid much the same as you did but on e Bay.
What is a mystery to me is that dealers can charge differing prices for the same item.
In the UK every dealer would quote the same for a factory supplied spare...I must get used to shopping around more over here!
(PS Anything seems a bargain here compared with UK prices...I could not contemplate running a KR as an everyday vehicle in the UK with gas prices about 4 times what they are over here!
You guys don't know how lucky you are.)
Like when I went to "just look" at the truck....I never thought I would drive off in it the same day.
In the UK you might get to see a picture of the vehicle you wanted in your particular color...then once ordered you might get it in 6 months!
Do you know what the waiting list is for a Morgan sports car....
7 (Seven) years!!!
Mind you that time is needed for the psychological examinations needed to determine why you wanted such a car in the first place.
(Only joking....sort of)

well, just got off the phone with my ford dealership...he actually laughed at me when i asked them to pay to have the correct badge put on the tailgate....he did some research and apparently i have one of the only '02 KR without the KR badge on the tailgate..duh.....he said my truck is worth more because of it.....like i care what $ value my truck has.....i love him and i want him to look like he was supposed to look...do you think i am crazy? should i replace the tailgate badge with the correct one? or should i leave it and increase the selling value of my truck? and what is the likability (is that a word?) of me getting more money for my truck because of its obvious factory flaw? i am guessing slim to null!

So the tailgate is different on the 2002's? That would have to be if the holes are different on the badges. That makes no sense. It should be a different King Ranch badge. Why can't any of the dealers find the right one so the alignment holes actually work? That's what I've been trying to tell them and they insist that I am wrong.

Being an engineer, I don't think so. First off, they wouldn't make a new tailgate just to fit the Kiing Ranch badge on it. Second off, why would the fender badges have two different part numbers and then not have a different badge for the tailgate?

If anyone can force the right part number out of Ford, I would appreciate it. I figured I will wait until someone finally gets the right one before I replace it. Those posts really do help, so I don't want to cut mine off altogether.

Skagel,

I would tell your dealer that what they just told you is them admitting that it is a factory defect, which means they owe you the correct one. No sense in paying that out of pocket when you don't have to. With that you can buy a K&N filter for your riceburner (if they make them for that)

well, i already paid for it when i ordered it and it was only $36.55. they are installing it for me for free. they are even going to take the black paint off where it says f150 like i did to the rest of the badges. maybe i can beg for an extra cd magazine...can't find one anyplace.

LOL. i already have a K&N for the rice burner...it was $50..for the filter not the rice burner.

I found the right one for the tailgate. Here is the part number. I knew there would be a different one. 2L3Z-1842528-AAA I got quoted $25.99 from www.fordpartsnetwork.com . Hope this helps some of you that haven't already gotten one.
