new king ranch owner need help

i just got a 2006 f250 king ranch i know this site is f150 but this is all ive found. my truck has 49,000 miles and the seats are in pretty good shape the back ones look like no ones ever sat in them and the front ones just need conditioning but my steering wheel and part of my console has turned black and ive been reading through post on here for hours and i found a lot about conditioning but i havent been able to find anything about actually cleaning them ive tried just lightly rubbing it with a damp rag with hot water and a lot of dark stuff came off i cant tell if its dirt or if its some of the leather coming off but it doesnt look any better at all it just made it feel a little rough. any help would be appreciated thanks

You are on the right track. There is a ton of info on cleaning the seats, with the most popular, and probably the best, method being called the "Spa Treatment". Do a search under that and you will find some answers. Basically, you just take a clean white towel, a bucket of hot water, and you wrap the towel around the steering wheel and just squeeze. If you rub, you will roughen up the leather, like suede, and then it's not going to be the same smooth leather. Allow this to dry, then follow-up with the conditioner of choice, KR Conditioner, Leather CPR or Lexol. My favorite is the KR conditioner, but I have used the Leather CPR. DO NOT use saddle soap.
If you have enjoyed reading what you'v efound already, you will love the cleaning part.

Welcome aboard.

Like Timber said, rubbing while doing the "spa" treatment will make the leather rough. I found that out the hard way, but have conditioned a couple of times since then and it's gotten better. Still not quite the same, but maybe over time it will go back to normal. The Leather CPR is pretty decent, but didn't take out the stains I was trying to get out, I may try the Lexol cleaner later.

You might want to wait on the Lexol Cleaner, there have been horror stories concerning it, that I'm sure you can find searching for it. The Lexol conditioner is fine, but the cleaner did something, that escapes me right now?

I used the Lexol cleaner and it SUCKS! It seems to dry the seats out and didn't clean them that well. It took me quit a bit of work with the Lexol conditioner to get them back to normal.
Go with the spa treatment method of cleaning. Then your conditioner of choice.

BTW applying the cleaner with your hand (no applicator) seems to help
