06 Drivers Mirror

Hi all,

First I'd like to say what a great forum you all participate in. While I don't really have much to post, I am an avid reader. You all have a wealth of information to share and it is appreciated. You also provide great entertainment with some of the banter that goes back and forth.

I have an 06 F150 KR 4dr Screw, that came stock with an exploding drivers side mirror, or someone hit it with a bat and didn't leave a note. Probably the latter. Everything works on it except it's pretty hard to see through the 19million cracks and missing chips.

I've searched high and pretty low on the net looking for a replacement (dealer says I need a whole new housing instead of replacing the glass due to heater). There are many OEM replacements and others with out power folding. Am I looking in the wrong place? If anyone has one of these sitting in a box and you don't want it please let me know. Or if you have suggestions where I should be looking, all information is appreciated. I really would prefer to avoid having to purchase a new mirror from the dealer as they are asking mucho $$$.

Drivers side mirror / heated / power folding / turn signal / power control.

Thank you so much in advance.

I doubt you're going to find anything much below $250. And, I think you DO have to replace the whole thing. (Read my posts on "Puddle Lamps").

That said, you can probably get it on the internet cheaper than at a dealership. Try this link: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...cfm?siteid=318

He seems to be a good guy and was recommended to me by RockPick.

I had the same happen to my truck, got in it one day and looked at the mirror and it was shattered and driving home I hit a bump and the actual mirror (not housing) piece itself fell out. It was hit hard enough that plastic piece for the power mirror broke, I had to super glue it back in and fortunatley got it to the point I can see with it for the most part. Fortunately I don't drive much on the interstate with the truck because I have a commuter car. I have a brand new one from a friend who works at a Ford dealer (gets me parts at dealer cost) that is sitting at home waiting to get put in for a few months now. If you cannot find one online you are happy with, I could get another and ship it to you, you would simply need to cover the cost of the mirror and shipping. It is a Ford factory replacement mirror and I paid $240 or $250 for it, don't have the invoice with me at the moment but I could look when I get home. If you are interested email me at jlschwefel@hotmail.com.

I had another thought (Dangerous, I know): Why not take a trip to a junkyard and get a mirror of the proper size, forget all about "power, folding, heated", etc. and then swap the glass?

I sort of imagine this could be done somehow. Since yours is broken, you might be able to see how it's mounted.

Hi all, thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look on the website you provided. I really appreciate your offer of sending a ford factory replacement. I will continue to hunt a little, but I very well may take you up on your offer! Very generous!

As for going to the junkyard, why I'm all about going to the yard. The deal is, I really want the stock mirror. 1, to match the other side, 2, if I sell I want everything working properly, and 3 maybe most important, they built my house really big, but when it came to building the garage they didn't take larger trucks into consideration. With mirrors extended there is about 2" clearance on either side. This is asking for a new mirror or garage door at some point.

So thank you for your response so far, and I'll let you know if I come up with something!

Sincerely,

Zak

Zak - I think you misunderstood my suggeston about the junkyard. What I was suggesting is that you find a mirror with the same piece of glass in it. Then replace your broken glass with the good reflector.

Glass shops could even cut you a new mirror if that is all you need.

Or, maybe I misunderstood you. Is it possible the mirror frame/housing is also damaged? If so, I'd get an OEM replacement too.

Jack,

I think I misunderstood and also wasn't very clear in my original post. Ford actually has a glass replacement for this style of mirror housing. Due to the heater element, just the glass cannot be replaced. For much less $ I technically could replace the glass but then the heater part will not work. This is why I have to replace the whole housing. I was hoping to find a crumpled KR with a complete mirror housing intact at a junkyard; so far no luck. Recently I replaced a headlight housing on my other vehicle with an oem part. It looks close but not the same, so I would prefer to get a factory replacement mirror for the KR...

Thanks for your input!

Zak
