So Much for Being New!
So Much for Being New!
So, I get to drive this fancy NEW King Ranch, and last Thursday, some idiot coming at me kicks up a stone that hits the windshield just below the driver's wiper. BANG! A beautiful star with about a three inch leg splitting up the windshield. I guess I'll wait until it gets worse before having it replaced. DARN!
I feel for you! It's never the same after the first boo-boo, is it? Fortunately, though, if you get a new Ford windshield, it will look as good as ever!

Same here, I went 8 days before I got a nice chip. Sadly, it's nothing new around here with the constant construction on the interstates.
However, the rock chip repair guys get a lot of practice and can make most of them darn near disapper.

I took a rock to the windshield when driving cross country. The one difference is the car I was behind was being driven by my wife. I feel the need to show her what she did to my truck evey time she get in it now. Probably doesn't make you feel any better, just wanted to share.

Well, screw the rock chip! I thought I needed to take my mind off of it so I went out and got REAR-ENDED last night!
Some daydreaming chicky-poo decided to stare at the three cop cars and four or five officers standing on the side of the road, and slammed into the old guy behind me. He in turn hit me. An accident, but the best kind to have if you REALLY need to have one.
Thank goodness it only bent the bumper and messed up the plastic cap. No body sheetmetal was involved. The van who hit me is totalled, and the car that hit him is probably also totalled. The guy hitting me actually scratched the hitch, but I'll live with that. It's going to cost one of the guys behind me about $1,500. The bumper alone is close to a grand just to buy it. Go figure the one with reverse sensors is about $500 less. Must be the "less metal" because of the sensor holes.
I have no sensors - only a camera.
The guy who hit me went out via meatwagon, but the chick causing the commotion walked away (waithed for her new ride). I think the old feller taken away was precautionary... he appeared to be in his late 70's. Hope he's alright. Too bad I wasn't in the old F-250... I would have received no damage - or maybe he would have taken out my spare. The body shop said it's usually worse when guys leave their drawbars in the hitch receiver. Most of the time, the drawbar forces under the truck and bends the frame. Iguess I'll keep mine out.
Lesson: Always keep a look in your rearview, and keep your brakes on whenstopped or when it's doubtful the idiot behind you is payig attention. DO NOT take your foot off the pedal and slowly roll. Many think subliminally the vehicle ahead is moving when you are close to or actually stopped. The RED lights might wake them up.

sorry to hear that smoke. i hope that there is not a 3rd incident in the near future for ya. if so, i think i'll avoid illinois for a while.
glad to hear that the damage was not that bad.

I'll add a small bit of advice to what Smoke gave us. When you stop in traffic try to do so far enough back that you can still see some ground up to the rear wheels of the guy in front of you. That way, if you're rear-ended, you just might not get pushed all the way to that poor guy in front of you! (Which will save on damage to your ride too)!
Sorry about your luck Smoke! I got rear-ended by a "chicky-poo" about 10 years back while stopped in traffic and my Wife got rear-ended last year (stopped in traffic) by a teenage "stud". (Maybe young people just shouldn't drive)!
Interesting point about the drawbar. I always take mine out because if it's in, I keep banging my shin on it and it hurts!

That's really too bad. Sorry to hear about your bad luck.
Side note... How do you like your tires? I've had mine for about 6 months, and have enjoyed them. They grip well, very quite, great in rain and snow, no gripes with them at all.
