Seat Trouble
Well the title pretty much says it all. I have been using the King Ranch leather treatment but after about 2 days or so the seats already look like they have dried out. It is mainly the front seats and center console but the back seats feel dry also. If the truck is going to be parked for longer than a few hours I use a windshield shade and the windows are all tinted so I don't think it is the sun. I am kinda at wits end and thinking of getting seat covers and just putting an end to it all. Does anybody else have this much trouble? Should I use another product? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Do ya have some pics? My seats are 6 months old. They look the same as the day I bought the truck...but I have conditioned them 3 times.
How many times have you conditioned them?
How do you apply the leather conditioner?
How old are the seats?
Are you the first owner?
Are you sure the product was form the KR website?

I'm puzzled by this. Our two "resident" gurus, Rockpick and Lenticular, don't seem to have this problem. And Lenny, in particular, uses the KR conditioner about twice a year (if my aging memory serves) and finds that's all it needs. Rockpick, on the other hand, likes Bed Bath and Beyond's Leather CPR, but I can't detect he is having to use it very often.
My seats, on my 2005 KR that I bought used about a year ago, still look about the same as when I got it. They are in good shape. I prefer the KR conditioner.
One thing that is necessary is that the leather needs to be clean before conditioning. But with a new truck, I can't really see that as an issue.
Maybe you should try Leather CPR.

Can you post a clear close up picture ?
Another suggestion is to try to find a comparative truck of the same age and look yourself at the seats.....are yours really that different ? How much have they deteriorated since you first had the vehicle or have they always been pretty much the same ?
I suppose it IS possible you got some duff seats where the leather had not been prepared correctly in which case it would be a dealer issue, but somehow I doubt it ?
As has been written before in these columns I have had several KR's with castano, and also previous experience of caring for leather in vehicles, but can honestly say that the castano has caused me no problems, and if treated regularly.....and as Jack says I do mine no more than 2/3 times a year, and then not particularly thoroughly...should stay fresh and supple.
Try to show us a pic.
Well quick update. I was running some other errands the other day and decided to stop and get a jar of Leather CPR. So far it looks like I may have better luck but I haven't driven the truck since it is nice enough to be on the motorcycle. I might throw on another treatment this weekend if it is nice.
I am new to the forum but was searching for information on help for my seats. I read Rockpics post about Leather CPR and went to Bed Bath and Beyond and picked a jar. My seats were dry, dry, DRY. After the first treatment I could not believe the results. Great product. I need to apply another dose but I have been waiting on the weather to change here in North Mississippi, we have had several weeks of rain.

I appreciate the kind words but, I certainly can't take credit for LCPR being mentioned with great frequency within these walls... it was someone who told me about it as I wasn't the one that found it on the shelf.
I can't recall who should get the credit but, you're right, it's a pretty solid product. I'm glad it worked out for you!
Oh yeah... where are my manners? Welcome to the forum!!

So, since RP has been praising Leather CPR for the last month or so, I decided to give it another try after our trip to California. The seats had gotten the usual scuff marks from getting in and out - the normal wear and tear caused by people.
And, surprise, surprise! It seemed to do the job just fine! (So I'm a "convert" - at least I think it's just as good as KR Conditioner). The scuff marks are nicely camouflaged and the seats look just fine.
I think, upon prolonged reflection, that what I was disappointed about in CPR the first time I tried it was the "cleaning" component. It did nothing for the black on the steering wheel or the console armrest. So, that was when I ended up cleaning the wheel with saddle soap and I DID use Lexol cleaner on the console. Then, I restored the finish with Tandy's Satin Shene, as I've discussed on other threads.
The wheel and console looked just fine after the trip, so I did nothing to them. Satin Shene is a GREAT protector! (Sorry if I sound like I'm selling the stuff - I'm not!)
Anyway, RP, I stand humbled to your great judgement and discerning evaluation of conditioners.
(Or maybe I'm on my knees?)
(I know Lenny, I'm just giving him an undeserved "ego boost".)

I have mentioned this on several threads here. Try Obenauf's Heavy Duty LP. I have been using it exclusively on my KR leather and it is absolutely great.

It's probably just that we all have so much of our favorite product that we can't bear to not use it in favor of something new! (And then there's always the, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" cliche.) Mabe we're just a bunch of "old dogs"!
