Steering Wheel Looking Bad

A few weeks ago I performed the steam streatment on my seats, center console and steering wheel and it did get out just about all the stains and dark spots in the KR leather.

I bought the KR Conditioner and applied it using my hand and buffing with a terry cloth right behind that. The 2 front seats and the wheel got that white haze I read about the following day why I dont know as I was very careful not to use too much conditioner and let the leather soak it all up. The truck was nice and warm and stayed that way for 48hrs after applying.

I find the wheel is looking really bad, light on some spots, real dark in others and white haze in the remainder. It looked great right after the spa treatment almost new but seems to have gone down hill from there.

The seats and console still have that white haze but the leather looks "ok" if you brush it with your hand in one direction you see haze brush it in the other and it looks half decent.

Any ideas ?

I'd guess it's impossible to restore a "uniform" color to leather that has been subject to very hard use, like the steering wheel (and console in climates where we run around with bare arms) The oils and acids on our skins don't seem to be too kind to Castano leather.

I'll still recommend though, my Tandys Satin Shene treatment that I've talked about on other threads in this forum. It has restored an "acceptable" look to the wheel and console and I'm seeing no evidence of "blackening" now.

Do a search for satin shene or super shene. I've found I like the Satin Shene look better.

I had a problem with the steering wheel in my 01. After less than a year it looked really bad, but the seats and consoles looked fine. The dealer replaced it under warranty. You might try that route. Now I am very careful to not condition it as much as the seats, because the extra conditioner will collect the dirt and oil from the hands and make it look really bad. I also use my sunshade religiously to keep it from fading. After another 6 years this wheel still looks really good.
