New '06 KR
New '06 KR
Just bought a new KR this week and LOVE it!!! I have been reading up on the leather a bit and have just a couple questions. I was thinking about getting the duragloss shampoo and conditioner for the leather as I read it is made by the same company as the KR conditioner. Does anyone use this conditioner? Here are some pictures of the interior.

I plan on doing a hot steam bath on the wheel and some of the trouble areas and then I think I'm supposed to shampoo then condition it or would I even need to shampoo it? From everything that I've been reading and the condition of the leather I don't think the previous owner really did anything with the leather.
I also was wondering if leaving my moonroof open will hurt the leather from the sun or does the polarized glass prevent most of the damage? I plan on keeping it conditioned about every month or two.
Thank you

Congrats on the new truck. I dont recommend the kr conditioner. But i do plan on picking some of this up. http://www.leathercpr.com/index.html watch the video on there it speaks for itself
Pony take it from someone that just asked a similar question. The forum is pretty much split on what type of conditioner to use. Myself I absolutely love the KR Leather Condtioner. I was very happy with the results and the smell is great. Others say it leaves behind a white residue. I have not ran into that problem yet.
I'm going to agree with Emmitt on this one. As a "conditioner" I think KR conditioner is great on Castano leather. You might also notice the resident Guru on KR leather (who goes by the name of "Lenticular" - well, John really) recommends the KR product.
I tried Leather CPR and was not at all impressed. First, it did not seem to clean the leather well at all and second, did not seem to "hide/blend/cover" imperfections. IT didn't hurt anything though. If you study the video, you don't see them using CPR on Castano leather - just other, very different products.
On clean leather though, KR conditioner completely blended in the scuff marks and returned the leather to a like new look on my truck.
But, you will need to CLEAN your steering wheel and your armrest. There are several threads on this. One of the approaches that seems to be popular is the "spa" treatment with hot towels - I have not tried this but in the pictures it seems to work just fine.
I used Kiwi saddle soap on my wheel. It worked fine but left the wheel dry and faded. I then coated the wheel with Tandy's SuperShene (but in the future I will use SatinShene) and it restored the color and "life". In addition, it protects the wheel from new soiling - I haven't had to redo it in about 6 months. I also did the armrest, but I think I should have cleaned it better before using SatinShene. Next time, I will. I actually don't remember what I used to clean the armrest - it was not the saddle soap and could have been Lexol cleaner.
On the seats, which are NOT dirty (with oils and grunge) I just wipe them off with a damp cloth, let them dry and apply KR conditioner.
Some people swear by Lexol conditioner, which I've used on other leathers but have not tried on the truck. I think everyone in these threads says to stay away from the Lexol cleaner - because it's too harsh. The cleaning products like saddle soap and Lexol WILL remove some of the color, and, the leather looks dry and lifeless afterwards. Again, KR conditioner will restore the life and color.
Probably, saddle soap is too harsh too. But, it really cleaned up my steering wheel.
I think I tried Fiebing's Aussie Leather Conditioner once on a seat, but was not impressed.
Anyway, just my thoughts on this. One of my hobbies is leather work.

Thank you for your opinions. I think I'm going to try the duragloss and if that isn't what I want then will order some of the KR conditioner. I will keep you posted on how it goes and give some before/after pictures.
