Message for Mike and Brad.....

How comes there was a bit of an upset when Mike mentioned some time ago that he was making a link to something for sale, yet now there seems to be a free for all on a certain leather product that originally we were told would not be for sale, yet suddenly has been promoted to all and sundry through a long thread ?

Double standards somewhere ?

Being a newby here, I probably don't have much room to talk, but I didn't like that post either. Every other board I am a member of, everyone almost becomes like a family. To post about the product, then not help fourm "brothers/sisters" out to me seems a bit rude. I know for a fact on the motorcycle forum I am a member of, there would have been at cost offers to everyone on the forum. Here it seemed that someone was out to make a buck off the members. Not cool in my book.

John... I noticed the same as most probably have, but you know, it is what it is... take it with a grain of salt and enjoy the capatalistic amusement.... god help anyone taking any of this seriously anyways....

(You'd chuckle as some of the offline emails I rec'd when I posted that link to sell the King Ranch portfolio that Ford gave out as a gift back in 01-02... )

This leather product wasn't offered for sale on the boards even though it has a thread talking about it on ebay the original poster never said it was for sale. I didn't quite understand the while thing about telling us about this wonderful product then saying i'm not selling it. I didn't see the problem with what Mike did however board rules have always been not to post items for sale.

KR - I think this is one of the threads John was referring to:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=298662

At least I wasn't advertising in my gallery... what a country!

If this has anything to do with me posting the link to the eBay auction, I apologize. It wasn't meant to be an ad for the product, I was simply trying to inform the other members about the sale of the conditioner. If that is against the rules or frowned upon, I definitely won't do it again.

I haven't been so confused as I am right now. What are you guys talking about

I checked this thread...it dates back to 2005. Huh?

To clarify......

Jaron 2846......It wasn't to do with you posting a link....I think you did that quite innocently.

What has bothered me is that quite a long time ago before many of the current members were here, one of our longest standing members, Mike, was reminded that the forum was not to be used for advertising.
He had made what I thought at the time was a fairly innocent link to an item for sale.
I didn't see any real harm...he isn't a commercial enterprise, and we don't always think to look at E bay etc. all the time.

Anyway as a result Mike left the forum which was a great pity, though he does now interject from time to time.

We were all reminded that "rules is rules".

Now we have someone making the following posts....

I worked on this for some time and have also improved it over the last year .. At this time iam not willing to give out the formula. And at this time I am not trying to sell it . I was just sharing the results I have had with it. I do plan to give a few bottles away to friends and customers to try .

I am not looking to sell this to anyone here so please don't ask.

Lo and behold within a day or so it was on EBay !!

Again., personally it doesn't bother me, but I felt that if this was being allowed, what had happened to Mike was unfair.

John - personally, it's just water under the bridge and this thread should just die.... F150online isn't what it used to be (at least to me) and alot of folks have moved on in life... (or traded their F150 for a Toyota! )

Perhaps we were spoiled when there were only a few KR's on the road back in 2001-2003..... actual "sightings" of KR's on the road were reported in a Loch Ness monsteresque fashion!

However I also think we had more of bond than just owning the same truck.... back then, it was a very diverse group of modest & sincere folks who happened to posses an extreme KR interest ... it was more than just a truck and we learned from each other. There were no "experts" or "gurus" at that time.... (I think the fact that for most of us, it was our first truck and none of us really needed one had something to do with it as well.... ) The KR forum was our sanctuary where we could ask dumb questions without getting lamblasted.

Anyways, history is always romanticized and times change. I'm sure there are some great folks in the KR forum nowadays as well but time doesn't allow the level of active participation/relationships for everyone.

It is what it is at this point.....

Yes sites do change and or evolve....people come a go and the sites stay.

Most forums are what you put in them unless the "status quo" has already been established and thus you may feel like an outsider....I know that feeling on some forums for sure.

I still think the KR section is a pretty tight group but to be honest, I personally don't think that having a KR is really that big of a deal, in fact I won't have another one. I don't know you and you don't' know me so it hard for me comment on the past and how things "were" before I joined up but my observation is that if this site was closed off to outsiders b/c KR's were not as prevalent as they are today then maybe that drove away users or visitors to the site. That is the Devils Advocate speaking. The flip side is KRs are almost as common as a Lariat, so maybe the feeling of "exclusivity" is now gone. Maybe that rubs people the wrong way.

Like I said, hard for me get in the weeds on this topic...I wasn't here when it was just 20 of you or so here. There plenty of topics here and plenty of places for each person to learn and contribute. If not here, there are other forums you can visit.

Not trying to be an *** as sometimes my comments don't always come out the way I am trying to mean for them too as I am not that really articulate about expressing thoughts via type....so I hope this doesn't offend anyone.

Stick around, there great poeple here willing and wanting to learn from each other as we/most of us share a common bond by having a F150 or F250. KR or no KR, we still love our trucks.

RR - good insight & oberservations... You're right - everyone has a KR now as used ones came out into the market over the years and with that, a much broader audience (and younger!! :o ) in the forum now.... just hard for us "old" guys to accept the gate is open for us to go out to pasture...

Like you, I'll never get a KR again.... it's had its time & place for me & I've enjoyed it....

In deference to John though, we're now way off-topic from his original post & question.

Aw, shucks.
All I was trying to do was keep in your good books, Mike.

Topic closed I think....
Either Brad was keeping a discrete silence, since as the modulator it would have been a difficult balancing act to please everyone with that original decision.....or that new offspring is diverting his attention.

Come in number 9 !!!

Yep. Total double standards. I love having a GREAT BIG RED 'X' on my back. Thanks for pointing the spotlight at it, John & Mike. Much appreciated.

RP - I personally don't care as I've stated above... it wasn't even you deleted my post when I tried selling the KR portfolio.... it was Steve. Why you're starting a childish "woe is me" routine is beyond me.

I think John was only asking why blatant advertising is allowed now in the KR forum without recourse. Period.

I've got MUCH better things to do than this....
