Lightbulb 2007 Mirrors on a 2006

I have a 2006 KR and while I'm very happy with it, I would of course love to but a few mods on it. One is the folding mirrors on the 2007. The folding option is cool but the drivers side has the self darkening feature similar to the rear veiw mirror. Plus the added bonus of being painted on the upper half.

I would imagine that the only things needed to put them on a '06 would be the mirrors themselves, the wiring and the switch in the door. Am I right?

On the same note, how hard would it be to replace the sterring whell with that of the Lincoln? I love the wood in the wheel and I would very much like to add it to my truck. Nevermind the color differences, if it could be done, I would also change the wood venere found in the KR.

Not sure about the steering wheel...

On the mirrors, I recall one person doing this -- to my recollection he said that the wiring was very tricky (Ford moved some pins around on the connectors) and, as such, it was tough. I don't think it was as simple as just getting the mirror part itself.

folding mirrors

My 2005 KR Screw has the folding mirrors. Are these not factory?

Yes. They're factory. Actually one of the few things that is SPECIFIC to a King Ranch over a Lariat in MY2005.

What he's referring to is the auto-dimming feature on the side-view mirrors for the 07'.

The 2007 KR (I'm not sure about Lariat) has automatic folding mirrors, similar to the action you take to adjust your mirrors, you can fold them too.

I REALLY like the look of the half painted mirror...soooo much better than plain black mirror. I bet it costs a fortune to upgrade to those...

I don't have the numbers in front of me but, I looked in to it...

You're correct -- It was going to cost a fortune. Much cheaper, to my recollection, to simply have my crummy looking black plastic ones painted to match.

Thanks RP, that's what I thought. There are aftermarket companies that make a painted plastic cap for the new mustang mirrors like these:

Hopefully someone will make something like this for the F150....

I had asked this a little while back, 06whiteF150 sanded his and painted to match and included a brief "how-to", worth reading;

This won't get you the auto-dimming driver's side mirror, but it's a much cheaper alternative to replacing both mirrors and rewiring!
