I made contact with the guy who did the steering wheel mod, and he was very helpful. He purchased the "core" from Alliance Technology at www.stwheel.com.

Their website lists the steering wheel as "oxford burl and med. parchment leather"--$339. They say something about sending in the original steering wheel for a discount or a small rebate, too.

Surprised it's that much, but it is beautiful.

If anyone takes the plunge on it, keep us all posted!!
Not sure if they have the 06 yet....if you look the buttons are different. I have a few extra ones on my wheel. I can wait but the net is only 239 bucks after the 100 buck core rebate. Not too bad.

Good luck to those doing it....show us how you did it.

I recently purchased a woodgrain steering wheel off of eBay. When it arrives, I intend to do the swap in my driveway. I've done it before, but on a '98 GMC Sierra I used to own a few years back. It is very easy and pretty straightforward. You just have to be careful around the airbag and know how to handle it.

For those DIY'ers and interested in what all is involved, here is a set of Ford's generic instructions in .pdf format to review...

Ford (Generic) Steering Wheel Removal Instructions

Only other thing to note...after disconnecting the battery, pump the brakes 5-6 times to release any stored energy. Just an extra safety precaution instead of waiting 1 minute and assuming power is completely drained.

Here is a pic of the wheel I purchased...

The tan might be slightly off, and maybe even the woodgrain, but it is close enough for me.

I paid $165 for the wheel (brand new unit) plus $30 shipping. I also had to include a $50 core charge which is refunded when I return my original wheel (I do not intend to return my original). So, $245 isn't a bad deal as far as I'm concerned. $195 is even better if you are willing to give up your original.

I'll be sure to post up pics when I complete the swap.

Instead of pumping the brakes it would be better to turn the headlights on. This would put a larger draw on the charging system and be easier.
