Any opinions on the which engine would be better for towing?

Thanks.

The diesel would be alot better for towing. IMHO

I have a 2006 F350 KR, a 2003 F50 Lariat, and a 1999 F150 supercab. Can you see the trend? Thinking about an F650, but it would have to be a KR!

I'm new....virgin post here! I just picked up a very clean 2003 F250 KR (Estate Green over Arizona Beige) Supercrew 6.0L 4wd SB Diesel w/ 22k and another 3 wks of OEM warranty. Nice truck. It replaced a buggy 2004 F150 FX4 5.4L Supercrew w/ 22k. The 120 mile drive home convinced me that this was a VERY good decision (I love this truck)! I dig the torque and the power and the sheer size.

Our daily drivers are a 2006 Honda Civic Si (wifey) and an BMW X5 (me)...the SD is for the farm (we farm horses). I think it will get driven more than the minimum miles we put on the F150 I'm reading as much as possible to get up to speed on these great vehicles. This is a terrific resource! Thanks for having me.

PS - 1) Anything I should have looked at before I go out of OEM warranty? 2) How can I install 2005-07 wheels on a pre-2005 SD? Thanks in advance for your thoughts and comments.

I suspect just find a 05 or newer set of wheels and bolt them up. The lug pattern is not different is it?

On a side note, how do you like the X5? Do you have one of the v8 versions?

Hey R - Everything I've seen thus far indicates that the wheel offsets required for the 05-newer wheels will not work with the older (pre-2005) suspensions, but the bolt pattern is the same. I'm not done researching it, but if I thought I could just bolt on a set of 2005+ wheels and tires I'd be jumpin' fer joy! On the other hand, I might find out that it's nothing. I will report back to the forum, because 1) I have searched and searched and so far have found nothing, and 2) I HATE the dinky 16" OEM wheels and 265 tires that are on the truck now.

Re: the X5...this is my second one. I had an '02 4.4i (290hp V8) and it was a road rocket. My '04 is a 3.0i (225hp I6) and it gets the job done just fine without the V8 overhead (i.e. added fuel cost). If I really need to tow something big, I now have a fine PowerStroke that can handle it

I also have an '06 F350 KR CC LWB, great truck. I changed out the running boards for the Ford 5" Oval step bars and removed the FX4 sticker. I also replaced the 4" rear blocks for the 2", this left just a bit of a rake.

Nice ride! I prefer the oval bars over the standard KR bars. I think they look more purposeful. The decreased rake looks good, esp. on the LB. And I am diggin' those 20" wheels!

Well...I don't quite remember the 50's, and only part of the 60's (by design, certainly not by choice!). But as an old car enthusiast, the phrase does come up from time to time! And if there is a phrase worthy of those wheels, "diggin'" is it!

Had mine since February. It is my horse, hay and project hauler. Pics are linked in the signature. I finally had time and found a way to mount my CB and started on it this week, will likely finish the antenna mount and start the power supply runs tomorrow. The only "mods" per say on it is that I put a gooseneck hitch in it and it has the 7 pin trailer connect in the sidewall. This hitch is a turnover ball and I have an adapter to convert to 5th wheel and to a four inch old style cattle trailer ball.

David, did you finish the Propane set-up & how much kick was it worth?
You listed a Fluidampner as mod. Whats the purpose for it?

I just got my '05 Superduty 4x4 KR 6.0 two weeks ago, researching mods before jumping in head first on the manufacturer's sales pitches.

The Fluidampnr is a harmonic balancer. The truck sounds SO much quieter at idle and when your just crusin along. Also the vibration for the engine is alot smoother.

We got the propane on, and I have noticed a difference in peformance. The truck is more responsive, also you get 2+ more mpg.

This is the first time I have ever posted on a forum so I hope its in the right spot .. I have a loud wind noise it seems to be from the drivers side door front and rear I have had it in the ford house for this several time they replaced the seals and tightend the doors but the noise is still there does anyone else have this problem ? when I get on the freeway and get upto 65 70 it is loud ! I have a 2005 F250 King ranch but had a 2002 F350 and never had this prob with the 2002 ... now the dealer has made my doors on the driver side way too tight you can feel they are too tight when you go to open the door it pops open I bought my king ranch new a little over a year ago. It only has 16,000 miles on it but the wind noist drives me crazy How do I add a picture of my truck to my post?

Here you go...

Not sure on the wind noise. Did you try removing the vent visors and bug guard to see if the wind noise went away?
