Just Curious
Well I thought I would see just why everyone here bought a Ford truck instead of another truck. I was talking to my friend who has a Superduty and has always had a Ford and he said he will drive nothing else. His whole family has Ford Trucks and loves them. My story is I had a Titan for almost a year and decided it was not for me so I traded it in on my second choice which was the KR. I am way more happier with my F150 than I was with the Titan. Again just curious and not looking to hate on any other truck.
I stumbled on to my 2001 KR when they were starting the 'financing wars' across the big 3. It was a demo that the finance manager was driving. I drove 2.5 hours to give it a look and bought it that day - only to have to turn back around and go pick up my 1998 Explorer that they wouldn't give me much for -- so I sold it myself on Autotrader.com.
Long story short, I was in the market for a truck as I'd owned a couple of SUVs previously. I knew my truck was going to be a Ford -- be it a Ranter or F-150). The SuperCrew, to me, was a nice blend of a 4-door vehicle (plenty of interior space) with the luxury of a decent sized bed. Ford just about accomplished this with the Sport Trac but, I wanted a little more room -- and carpet versus burbur (I know that's mediscule in the grand scheme but, I couldn't get over that and didn't want to pay an auto upholstry place to do it). Enter the SuperCrew -- and, more specifically, the King Ranch.
The 2001 KR that I bought was the very first KR that I had actually viewed in person. I immediately fell in love with it and -- well, here I am on KR #2. It's disappointing to learn that they're trimming back the KR on the EXPY side for 07' but, I see the KR as a permanent fixture for the F-series for quite a while... Ford realizes that botique models fetch higher margins...

And while I'm here I might as well answer your question. My '05 SuperCrew is my 3rd Ford truck. I went from my first car (an '87 Olds Cutlass Coupe) to a '98 F150, then into a '99 Ranger. Then when Ford did the Family Pricing I couldn't pass it up even though I couldn't really afford it (Ahh, to be young and dumb
). But Fords have always appealed to me and I've driven Chevys and Dodges and wouldn't trade my Ford for any of them. My Grandfather was a die-hard Chevy man and he always gave me crap for driving Fords. I guess you're either just one or the other.
I've had quite a few vehicles in my time, both foreign and domestic. There have been pros and cons to each of them. This current truck, which is a 2006 KR 150 was chosen at the end of a search for a vehicle to replace the towing and troop transport functions of my 1999 Suburban 1500. That truck served us well, but we do a lot of towing and as such I don't like to keep stuff forever.
I started by defining what we needed, which was to move 3-5 people and haul stuff. We have a big trailer, and several big boats. They all weigh a lot!
My first thought was to look at another Suburban, but with all the talk about the demise of GM, I decided to stay away from it for this next purchase. I then looked at foreign. The imported trucks are just too small to fit our teenage son and friends who are all athletic and need to be transported from this game to that practice. Also, with the exception of the Titan, they just don't tow enough weight. I did not like the Titan. Too much plastic, and too many reports of brake trouble. This led me to look at Ford next. As RP said, just one look was all it took. I too fell in love with the King Ranch. It's more glamorous than I was shopping for, but I guess it just caught my eye. All the utilitarian requirements we have are easily fulfilled by the KR. Especially now that I have the Troyer Performance Excalibrator set to program the truck for the best possible towing using either 87 or 93 octane fuel, I feel like it will pull the house down. We have all the room in the world for passengers, and everyone is comfortable on trips. I got the dealer to give us the employee special pricing during the drive that Ford had on last year.
I guess Ford had the right product on the market at the right time. We are very happy with the truck. Hope you are enjoying yours as much.

I saw a KR on ebay and noticed the interior. I called the wife over to see how cool it was. She encouraged me on that interior. Spoke lightly about it during various conversations. This was after looking at the F-150 Lariats. Down in the dumps 1 day and passed a Ford Dealer, stopped in asked "whats the chances you can get a KR" since they are scarce on Long Island, dealer responed that he was getting 2 on Fri. I asked what colors, he said copper & green, I put a deposit on the copper and 2 days later I bought it after the wife said we needed to get it.
I have had a few vehicles in my time. First car was a Mustang, then needed something with a bit better gas mileage so I bought an Isuzu pickup from my uncle. After some 16 year punk who was looking for the tape he had just dropped in the floor hit me at a stoplight, I bought a 98 F-150 extended cab(dark toredor red). My brother already had a 97 F-150 at the time, I looked at a few Dodges but one hte salesmen never came to see me as I walked around their lot. They need to come to me it's not my job to do their work for them. In 01 my folks were buying a new car and there was charcoal blue KR on the showroom I was hooked as soon as I saw the interior. So I talked to them about it a bit and they told me the other color that were available at the time, the charcoal blue, chestnut(which is close to the toredor red), and estate green. Well I told them to see if they could find an estate green one if they could if they hadn't found it by the end of the week I would take the charcoal blue one on the floor. I got a couple phone calls the next day asking about different features on the two they had found. Two days later I was driving out of the lot with my KR which got another new set of tires over the weekend and has 102,000 miles on it.
OK fine my story.
I was actually looking at Volvo's, and Jaguars when a former friend decided I should buy a truck and took me to the Ford dealership on a Sunday and I walked up to this blue vehicle and took one look inside the passenger window and it was over. I was in love and called a dealership in Ohio the very next day and ordered my Tomas.
I to this day do not consider myself a "Truck Chick" but I love the leather and having a 4x4 has its advantages.

Was the proud owner of my first Mercedes S-430 when I saw, and admired the new body style of the Ford F-150's three years ago. I had never owned a truck in my life and would have consider myself a car guy. Well, three years later with my lease nearing its completeion date, I went and looked at an F-150 Lariot. Although I liked the truck, I wasn't in love with the vehicle. Two weeks after that, my next door neighbor came home with a brand new F-350 KR edition. I looked at that vehicle and fell in love with the interior. Within two weeks I had turned my Mercedes in and was the proud owner of a white on tan KR 4x4. I must tell you guys, I LOVE THIS TRUCK! I find myself going places just so I can drive this truck! As a lurker, I love the comraderie that everyone on this board has, and I will be a KR F-150 owner for a long, long time!!
Well I have always been a Ford man...My dad was a Ford dealer for some 50 years...yes, 50 years
so Ford has been in the family for a long time. I will admit I did try a GM back in 1997 (a Jimmy) because I just didn't like the interior of the Ford Explorer. That Jimmy was the biggest POS I have ever owned. I traded it off on a Ford shortly after and will never go back to GM.

To some extent I have also been a Ford person, Dad always was on me about Fords (saying things from the pulpit, he was my pastor like..."Pray for Gary he owns a Ford).... But just before he passed away, he told my mother that he has always been a Ford man and the only reason he did this was to get me.....
Fords are "proven" I have own several and have no complaints
Good Thread
I found mine on the Internet at one of the dealers in my area. I looked at it on the internet for about two weeks. Just stared at the picture and couldn't figure out why someone hadn't bought it yet. I was just about convinced to get a new Tundra, but before I did, I went to look at this used '03 KR with a cap already on it. I had no idea what a KR was. I just wanted a 4x4, supercrew, cap. Curiousity got the best of me because this F-150 only had 16K miles on it and it was two years old. It was love at first sight and I never made it to the Toyota dealer.
LOL Love reading these testamonials. I own three Fords at the moment. My main vehicle is the '05 F150 KR. My wife is driving an '05 Five Hundred Limited and my toy is an '06 Mustang V6 5 spd. Why would anyone buy a Chevy? Don't know. My daughter was converted after owning her new '06 Fusion SEL for about an hour. (Actually, she was hooked during the test drive. lol)
Over the years, I have owned a lot of Fords. 62 Falcon station wagon, 64 Galaxie 500, 65 Mustang coupe, 66 Mustang Fastback, and a 69 Torino GT. All of these between 15 - 18 yrs old. Many of these were shells that I put back together. Then in 1975 found a 70 AMX which I still own.
Bought my first new Ford, 92 Ranger XLT. Drove it till I had a suspension problem. Fixed it and sold it but not before I saw a 02 KR F-150 in chestnut on my local Ford dealers lot. Fell in love with this model then. Took me a while to convince my wife, but thanks to the need and one of her co-workers that looks out for me (thanks Essie), I finally got my way. It helped that I got the X plan through my younger brother that works at the local Ford truck plant were all of the F-250 and F-350 KRs are built here in Louisville Kentucky.
I must agree, good thread!

I'll add my little Ford story
As others have said, I have owned several vehicles - Toyota Celica, Porsche 944, Chrysler Le Baron, Dodge Intrepid, VW Jetta, several Audis (wife drives one still).
But my very first two cars were both Chevys. They pretty much cured me of ever buying a Chevy again. Crap, crap, crap. Did I mention they were crap?
I don't care for the modern Chevy cars or trucks, in general - styling tends to be either bland or very plasticky and "boy racer." The interiors of the Chevy trucks are similarly bland and plasticky - they don't seem to be put together very well. They just leave me pretty bored.
Several years ago I decided I needed a pickup truck because I'm always doing projects around the house and yard. I had been using a utility trailer behind the car, but it was time for a truck. I scoured the used small truck market. I have known too many people who have had tranny problems with Dodge trucks, so they were out. Chevy was out for reasons described above, so that pretty much left Ford and Toyota - Toyota having a great reputation for long-term reliability. Drove both kinds and found I didn't fit very well in the Toyota SR-5 driver seat (I'm a touch over 6' and most of my height is in my legs, so I need leg room). Ended up with a `94 Ranger XLT King Cab, which I absolutely loved - I still kinda miss that little truck sometimes. Great little vehicle, 4.0 L v-6 that ran like a sewing machine and pulled like a champ, even with over 100K miles on it.
Last year decided it was time to upgrade to something fancier - looked at Audis and Mercedes, saw the KR, thought they were absolutely, uh, well (ahem) awesome - uh, er, ah, I mean really quite nice, actually. Thought and thought and thought about it literally for months. The dealer gave me a DVD called "The Truth About Trucks." It is really a great piece of marketing if you haven't seen it - they tear apart a Dodge, Toyota, Chevy and Ford truck and show you the difference in frame, suspension, steering knuckles, body panels, etc. and I gotta say, it is really convincing - the Ford just seems so much more seriously built - especially when compared to the Japanese trucks and even the Dodge. It's just more solid. The Toyota construction is a joke.
Then they came out with the "Family Plan" pricing and that settled it - too good to pass up. Got a great deal that can't be matched today and I have not regretted it one instant - even though the fuel economy stinks.
I love my KR.
Chevy stinks.
