Anyone replace their KR exaust?
I got mine at performancepeddler.com. I installed it myself without any problems. No experience with dual straight pipes, so can't help you there. I've heard hottexhaust.com is also a good store. I named my own price on performancepeddler and it was accepted, so I was happy (I think I only paid $300 for a $500 system).
I'm looking at Flowmasters 40 series right now. What offset do I want? What is the any benefit to single or dual outlets?
Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to learn as much as I can

To answer your questions, offset really doesn't matter, it is all for mounting the muffler and the configuration of the existing pipes. Mine is a center in / dual out. The single out is for if you want to run just a single exhaust pipe to the exterior of the truck (wherever you want it). The reason I bought a dual out is because I planned to run dual pipes out to the rear. I have not done this as of yet. Yes, you could get a "Y" and dual out from a single outlet muffler, but the sound wouldn't be the same. Now that I have driven the truck (and took it off road on some serious trails) I find that having it 'dumped' (a short curved pipe about 6 inches long bent downwards from the muffler) works better for me. It gives you a little more sound in the cab, but not having to replace the tail pipes when I offroad will be worth it.
Here's mine:

Hope this has helped!
Thanks for your help, that picture looks great. I think I am going to go with a 40 series Flowmaster, with the dual outlets. I like the look of the dual pipes from the back of the truck. Maybe its a little hillbillyish but hey Im from Cleveland!
No real benefits except the sound and look. MPG will go down, and HP gains are minimal if at all. It may actually go down because of the loss of backpressure. Without any other performance mods, there is no benefit at all.
With the better sound, most people end up stepping on the pedal more often and more aggressively, usually without realizing it, thereby decreasing gas mileage. In addition, the MPG claims of the exhaust manufacturers are artificial. There aren't any noticeable gains that would justify the cost of the system. In addition, the power gains they claim are also artificial. You may be able to feel some difference in the power especially in the low end, but it's usually attributed to the difference in sound and your perception and not any measurable HP gain. The only way you'll get any noticeable HP gain is if you replace the exhaust manifolds with headers and also do performance tuning.
If you drive exactly the way you do currently with the new exhaust, you will likely not see any change in either direction in your MPG.
Check out the exhaust threads, there are numerous questions just like yours about mileage and exhaust. The experts have said time and again that it won't happen. Don't fool yourself into thinking the mileage or HP will justify the cost. It's only aesthetic value really.

I understand that, and I have no problem spending the $ purely for aesthetic value. I really do like the looks of the dual exaust from the back of a truck. I was just thrown by your MPG statement. I thought you meant that driving the same way you will still lose MPG.
On exhaust replacement. I had shops tell me it will not help mileage or
performance. Some said it would. On my past Chevy the will not turned out
to be true. Put a Flowmaster dual out, low restriction. The installer
said it would increase mileage and motor run cooler due to less back
pressure. Mileage stayed the same, Temp stayed the same.
what post said above is what I found
The will not help crowd say do it for sound and looks, factory tech have
the OEM mufflers tuned to offer good performance. Sure can hear pros
and cons but from my Avalanche the cons were right. Ford might be
different.
Wanted to add on how mileage and performance can go down. years ago
my mom had a toronado. Well I was determined to get that cat off of
there. Once did, the cars mileage went to pot and acturally ran ruff
to the point of dieing at times. Kept all the parts, went and reinstalled
the mileage went up and ran great from there on out. Like said to
really help performance you have to get into serious motor work or
now chip tuning, headers, intake, yada yada yada
performance. Some said it would. On my past Chevy the will not turned out

I just noticed on your flowmaster pic. How I had the same burn ring
pattern on the muffler. Wondered if something had come lose in mine
but see it appears to be typical

Shawn
I installed cat back Magnaflow dual outlet system. Sounds great, fits great, looks great. Very happy with it.
Don't see any improvement in MPG or power. I didn't expect it either. But....I do have a big improvement in the smile on my face. It sounds LOTS better now.
Merry Christmas
