Factory Running Board Upgrades?
Factory Running Board Upgrades?
We had a nice day yesterday, so the KR got washed again. Going over it drew my attention to what I guess is my first negative comment regarding the overall package. Let's see what you guys have done about this. The OEM running boards are just cheap looking. I don't really know how else to say that. They are thin plastic, they are already showing signs on ground in dirt which doesn't wash out, and they appear to be bowed as if there has been weight on them.
Have any of you replaced them with aftermarket boards? I would be interested in your views on this because our winters are long here. There is a lot of dirty, salty, gravel crusted stuff that's going to get ground into these flimsy things, and I can already see what's coming. By spring, these light tan, plastic boards are going to look like hell.
What are your suggestions for good looking, but durable boards for this truck?

It must of beeen put on a lift incorrectly. I went with the Ford 5" chrome on my new truck and love them
I agree completely. Not sure why they chose such crappy running boards. And they'll only last a couple of years before there are so many scuffs and stains in them that they'll really look bad.
On a related note, I looked at a 2005 Lariat, Wedgewood Blue and Arizona Beige. They put the same crappy plastic running boards on that in black! At least ours are sort of transparent, since they match. But black?! It looked awful. Not only that, but it was a $250 factory option ... and the chrome ones are only $350.
I think the Expedition KR has proper nerf bars that are painted AZ beige, and that looks like the way to go. I have no idea if you can get these after-market, or how much they'd be.
My solution will probably be to buy the cheapest black nerf bars that I can find for the F150 and then have them Line-X with the Nason Color match in AZ Beige.
Good Luck.

Hello
A week after I bought mine, I notice this black stains on them I tried to clean them with diffrent products but the stains did not came out. I started to look for a replacement, and been that my truck is not a 4x4 their was not really a need for them but again I did not like the looks after you take them off, It just looks to simple and also the frame of the truck is also very visible. Long story short I went out their and got a pair of Chrome Sport Tubs that look just like the ones from the H/D. They added a new look to the truck clean and nice at the same time. I will try to post some picks.
