What would YOU do ??!
What would YOU do ??!
OK...here's the question.
(And I'm thinking about this to take my mind off the hurricane !)
You have 2 vehicles sitting in your garage.
One is a lovely 2005 KR Expy, which I really don't intend to change for a very long while....only do about 5000 miles a year.
Also a 72 Mustang Convertible in superb condition with 60.000 original miles.
The Mustang sounds superb and always turns heads....BUT for much of the year it sits in the garage while we are in the UK and it always bothers me...Will it start when we get back...what's going to go wrong next...(I'm not an expert mechanic on Mustangs)
I really like the new Mustang Convertible in Legend Lime Green.
(Total reliability and easy to look after)
Now I know the 72 will always hold it's value, the new one won't , but...in my situation....
Would you swap ?!
(I can get X Plan too )

Trade the 72 in on a 66 convertible with the K code engine and a four speed tranny. Now you will really have a classic Mustang.
Seriously Lenny, you gotta do what suits you. Either one is going to sit most of the time. The new one will lose value, most definitely. The 72 will hold steady if not increase. Money aside, personally, I would trade for the new one, but that's because I prefer the older, (65-66) Mustangs and not the 71-73's. The new Mustangs are definitely nice. The only advice I can give you on that is just make sure you buy the GT. No V6's. The V6's are a dime a dozen and everybody has one. The GT will hold its value better than the V6 and besides all that, it's a lot more fun to drive. All in all Lenny, you gotta do what you want to do. No one else can make up your mind. Hell why not just keep the 72 and buy the new one also? Solves all the problems.

Seriously thanks for the views on GT versus V6...I like POWER but on this occasion I was thinking of being economical.
I like your idea about having both...but I only have a double garage and also I don't think my dealer takes shirt buttons in lieu of real cash !

The legend lime would match the expy!! Hold out until the GT500 mustang comes out next year it should hold value a little better plus 450 horsepower

You're correct I posted my response before you edited. My wife complains every time I even mention looking at new vehicles. Anyway, The V6 would be a tad more economical but I still would look seriously at the GT. For as little as you will actually drive the car, how much would you really save with the V6 over the V8? I think you may be disappointed with the power level of the V6 especially after having the '72. If you seriously are looking for economy, even the V6 Mustangs are not the best option. You need to look at something else for true economy like a Focus or something. (Which I admit I have thought about myself with the price of petrol these days. I drive the KR every day and the gas pump prices hurt the wallet.) But I like having that power under my foot when I want it. You may not need that. I say again, it's all what you want out of the car. I know I would love to take the 72 off yours hands if I had the extra cash. But unfortunately spent my mad money on a hot tub last month so toys for me are out a little while until I get the bank account back up to what it was before the hot tub. Sorry for the lengthy conversation here.

I could get a focus in the UK...and the ultra hot RS version too....though I wouldn't !
I'm going to drive both tomorrow (V6 and GT) so we'll see then what the difference really is.
In truth there isn't a lot of point having anything fast down here since the local poilce are so short of real crime they spend their time stopping people who are doing 32 in a 30 limit !
I only drive the Mustang for the glorious noise it makes !!

In the UK I have several MG's, a Bentley Eight, and Volvo Station Wagon for every day.
My wretched wife made me sell my pride and joy...the Aston Martin Vantage Volante so we could build a new house here in the states.
(An Aston wouldn't have been destroyed by a hurricane...humph !!)
Here is a link with some sound clips of the gt500. Just click then links on the left of the page and with each icon you click you get a different engine sound. That should get you in the mood for the 500.
I can't wait to get my hands on one.
