New Aspen Green

Hello everyone,

I just purchased a new 05 KR Aspen Green and love it. The leather is awesome. I hope to drop by here and share my mods and see what others are doing also.

I have one small problem with mine, which is a rattle that seems to be coming from the under/behind the rear seat or from under the back of the cab. I searched under the truck but couldn't find anything that I thought would be causing it. Seems to happen when I hit a few bumps in a row. I have offered 5 bucks to any of my kids that finds the rattle.

If any of you have had this rattle could you share the fix before I go crazy.

Take care everyone and have a great weekend,
Carl

You didn't say whether you have the sun roof or not but from the description of the rattle, I'm guessing you do. Many of us 05 KR owners with sun roofs have had the same problem. There's a rattle in the headliner when you run over bumps in the road. Its caused by the gap between the headliner and the roof of the truck thats necessary for the workings of the sun roof. I too thought it was coming from under the back seat or behind it. Somewhere in that area. I think its a common problem for the 04-05 F-150 with sun roofs.

Ford has a fix (some kind of a "kit" with an actual part number) for that problem. I just had mine done yesterday. Its all addressed in Technical Service Bulletin 05-14-02A. Your service department has to install foam blocks under the headliner. Its takes about 20 minutes to do the job and it does fix the problem.

Hope that's all your problem is. If so, its an easy fix.

Hi Chestnut,

Thanks a ton for the response and I'll look into the rattle further. I did do a search on the TSB # that you had put in your post but I can't seem to find it. Can you point me in the right direction.

Thanks a ton,
Carl

i have the exact same truck. i have yet to see another that color on the street. saw an 06 at the dealer yesterday and the only difference is the fog lites are round and it had 20 inch wheels on it.

i dont have the rattle but i do have a steering vibe. its not the wheels out of balance. took it in and they say that it is normal and does not exceed what ford says is a problem. i might be a little sensitive to it since my 04 lariat screw was very smooth and had no road feedback at all.

Chestnut is right about the rattle, mine had it too. Except the TSB did very little to help mine. Instead of dealing with the stealership I fixed it myself in less time than it would have taken to drive to the stealership. The problem is due to the headliner cutout removing some of the stiffness from the headliner. When you hit large bumps the headliner flexes and strikes the hard foam blocks that are between the headliner and rear crossmember. To fix the noise, grab a cold beer from the frigdge, Remove the rear dome light, and mounting fixture. Turn the light off before you start the skin on your fingers thanks you for not burning it off. There are two hard foam blocks, one left and one right of the light fixture. Find something soft and about 1/2" thick, I used two pieces of carpet scraps from my house. Cut the material into a 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" squares. Wedge the filler material between the crossmember and the foam blocks. Put the light and fixture back in the headliner, by now you sould be done with the beer so replace it with a fresh one.

I searched the Internet every where I could think of and couldn't find the TSB anywhere. My salesman offered to give me a copy when I had my truck in for the fix but he wasn't there so I never got it. Even though I couldn't find it, my service manager sure knew about it. When he ordered it, it went on back order because they couldn't find one. Took about two weeks to get it in and less than an hour to install from time in the door to time out the door.

Was sorry to hear it didn't fix the problem for Wookie. It did for me and I haven't heard a peep out of the rattle since the fix was installed.

Hope your install goes smoothly and fixes your problem. Let us know.

I took your advise a few weeks ago.. sorry I haven't reported back the outcome but.. I've been enjoying the no rattle zone ...hehehehe
I cut two pieces of carpet as you suggested and ... I took her down a nice bumpy road... not a rattle one...One happy camper now...

well. if I can just get rid of the very slight front end wobble.. then I'll be in heaven...

Thanks to all who help on this thread,

Could you post a pic of yours with no decals?
