Need help with seats

I after I condition my seats they look awesome again but within a week or two they back to looking like they are dried out and even the belt loops on my jeans you can see where they rub up against the back of my seat?
Is their any way to keep them looking good all the time? They are not abused
just not well conditioned by previos owner I guess. I used the KR conditioner
then went to Maguires and used lexol but did not like it. Please help any info
would be appreciated. Thanks

It sounds like you've done a good job conditioning.

The seats will never look like the leather you have seen in other vehicles. It is an "open leather" and will show marks from rubs and scratches. Although they typically "heal" themselves unless a really deep scrape.

You can put too much product on the seats. Look at the back of the seat and see if there is a white haze. If so, take a damp cloth and wipe down the seats. The dryness you are experiencing may be from dried conditioner on top of your leather.

Can you post a picture? That may help me/others give you better advice.

Their is some white residue so I guess I applied to much, I was thinking it would be absorbed. I will try to take pictures.

The white residue is probably from your KR Conditioner... I had similar problems with that product that I've documented a few times here within the forum. Further, I found the KR Conditioner to be difficult to work with and thought that it had a very strong chemical-like smell...

Can you be a bit more descriptive about what you didn't like about the Meguiar's and Lexol products? Those happen to be my favorite two and maybe I can help shed a little light on them if you had a specific gripe. I'm certainly not trying to say that they're the only products to use but, I've had very good luck with them on both my 01 and 05 KRs... conditioner, though, is like underwear... everyone has a preference on style, feel, color, and texture!

The Lexol conditioner is the one I did not like, my seats looked dried out a few days after. I like the Maguires and as far as the KR conditioner goes it is not bad but does not keep my seats looking fresh for as long as the maguires. I think I put way to much conditioner and that is the reason I am getting the white in some corners.

Sounds like it... I would use a clean damp cloth to wipe away the dried, excess conditioner.

If the Meguiar's seems to work best I would stick with that. Again, you won't achieve a supple, baseball glove feel right away. It'll soften and "obtain character" over time.

I decided to cover my seats on the 2005. I didn't on the 2002 and after seeing them fade , my husband let me buy seat covers for the new truck. I also keep a small hand towel (in animal print of course!) towel over the middle console (did in the 2002 also) and it keeps that from fading. It can be a pain keeping it there but worth it. Keeps it from getting scratched too.

in my opinion, why would anyone put seat covers on their KR seats.....I love it when people peek in my truck and see the awesome leather! To keep them in good shape it takes time and commitment.

I've driven BMW's for many years, and have found Connoly's Hide Food to be one of the best leather conditioners you can buy. Originally developed for Rolls Royce, it still does nice work on "lesser leather" . I'll be using in on my new 2005 KR Expedition.

I've been telling everyone here that for years !
Unfortunately Connoly's recently went out of business but it is still possible to obtain their hide food from other sources.
Also another company is producing a similar product...we had a long discussion about it here a while back.
When I have a moment I'll dig up the thread.

Yes...that's the product.
It's always worked for me in the 'nicer' vehicles I've owned !!

Thanks.

This was the thread I referred to as well.
