What is the thing in front of the center leather console? Is it just a big space for storage?

Hope all is well.... I haven't been around in awhile (too busy) however I'm now forced to rest for awhile after having a heart attack this past Monday (46 yrs old.... a real wake-up call). Luckily no permanent damage...

Regards....

Hi Mike.....

So sorry to hear that and I hope your recovery is quick and permanent.
In some ways better to have that wake up call to understand the situation and do something about it.
The same sort of thing happened to me 4 weeks ago....I started to feel out of sorts and went to the doc for a blood test...turns out I'm diabetic.
Have to change my eating habits drastically since I have a sweet tooth, but again better to know and adapt to it than carry on regardless.

As for the satellite reception ...... as soon as I saw that picture I thought the same thing.....I'm just surprised no one else mentioned it sooner !!

Anyway keep in touch and let us know how you get on either through the forum or E mail.

Best wishes

John

That's hilarious! I just about rolled out of my chair laughing at that one. Good one Mike!

I hope all is well Mike. Take care of yourself man! I wish you all the best and a speedy recovery. With a history of heart problems in my family, I'm constantly reminded that I need to really straighten up my habits and exercise regime. None of which I do exceedingly well...

Again, get well!

Thanks RP... I'm actually feeling pretty good since and have to restrain myself a bit in order to rest.

Anyways.... I've learned alot this past week.... the only signs I had that I was having a heart attack was I was a bit nauseous and my throat/chest seemed dry (I was out snowblowing the driveway at the time).... it wasn't at all like George Jefferson clutching his chest and yelling "I'm coming, Weezie!!" Normally I would have just lay down at home for awhile to see if it would pass but my wife suggested we go to the hospital and I didn't object at all.

I had always poo-pooed my health as well as I never get sick (first time in hospital last week).. you really have to watch the cholesterol and control it with diet and exercise. Believe me, it's not fun when your 5 yr old visits you in the hospital and asks if you're going to die and go to heaven like his Grammie did 5 months ago.

Anyways, it was definite wake up call for me. Hopefully anyone reading this will think about it as well and get a check-up.

Again.. thanks for the wishes....

(John - sorry to hijack your thread - as a diabetic though, you need to be extra careful about heart attacks - evidently it's common for diabetics not to even feel an attack or the signs are very faint for some reason)

Mike...

I didn't think for a minute that you hijacked the thread.

As a matter of fact I had realised we hadn't heard from you for a while so I'm glad you popped in to let us know of progress.

As we get older we suddenly become aware of all the pitfalls of life regarding health issues.
In my 30's and 40's it didn't ever seem possible we would get to an age when things start to drop off...then all of a sudden you're there !
When you're younger you look forward in life and it seems to stretch away for ever.
Then suddenly you're old and you look back and you think....where the hell did my life get to ?!
I'm lucky I've got to my age (which is a fair bit ahead of you !) without too many disastrous problems.....but suddenly you realise that someone up there might be about to say...
"That's it mate...that's your lot...you lived for a little bit , now you're going to be dead ......for a very long time......a very, very long time !!!!

This has all got very depressing....but the message is enjoy your trucks, enjoy your family and homes....enjoy everything, and be as nice to everyone as you wish they would be to you.....

This is it...your one and only go at life.....despite what some may tell you......you don't get a second go at it !!!!

End of sermon !

This one is for Mike, Lenny and those wanting to live longer...

Mike150 and Lenticular,

Go to www.thevaptest.com. Print off their home page expanded lipid test sheet and take it to your doctor. It will help to tell your doctor far more than the cholesterol test that you both just did and allow you to avoid more heart attacks. If you have troubles getting your doctor to order the test or getting someone who knows how to read it them PM me. I can have the VP of the company come down and teach your local docs or get you in touch with a clinic that performs aggressive prevention. Furthermore, I can email you the current treatment guidelines for guys like yourselves.
Lenny, diabetics have the same risk for a heart attack or stroke as if they've already had one (very high risk). BTW, I do preventive cardiology and diabetology and still love my 02KR.

Work hard at getting well and sorry for being so off topic...the KR Expy is my next purchase!

IceKing - thanks.... I printed off the sample report and will talk with my cardiologist about it - he was just down at the Cardiology Convention in Orlando - he's probably heard of the VAP test already as he does stay pretty current.....

Question though - if it is a better mousetrap, why isn't the VAP test used a standard? (just curious)

Thanks again...

Better Mousetrap

Sorry RockPick, I know that this is wayyyyy off topic, but may be beneficial to all...

Mike150,

The best answer is that there is:

a) A dearth of knowledge about lipid metabolism and relative lipid risks by most family medicine and internist medicine specialists.

b) A lack of knowledge about advanced lipid testing by 97.5% of same.

c) Complacency regarding target lipid levels and the need for aggressive, combination therapy.

d) Complete lack of financial incentive to do preventive care. The little 1cm drug-impregnated stent to keep an artery open is $3500 alone, $50k including all other costs and incidentals. Why would an interventional cardiologist want to spend thirty minutes talking to you when there are more stents to be placed by NOT going the extra mile for prevention? eg. 20min patient visit, 10min paperwork = $180 (best-case Medicare) OR 90minute procedure + 10min paperwork = $8900 (Medicare). Which way would you go??? Pop in a stent, save someone's life in a definitive manner and you walk out of the cath lab like a conquering hero. The same warm fuzzies are not found in spending 20minutes convincing and cajoling someone to lose weight, exercise, stop smoking and take "expensive" (see above) medications. You get what you pay for, I guess.

Hope this helps out. BTW, my father and wife are both family physicians whom I regard as intelligent and well-educated, but not in this particular area...the explosion of information makes sub-specialization more likely and more necessary. You just can't know it all...

Also, don't begrudge the interventionalist for making the big bucks. It takes rather large cajones to feed a small balloon into someone's heart and crush plaques. Its pretty tough to have those same people die in your hands and to be responsible...
