The super duties get pretty dang good mileage considering their weight and power. My dad gets about 18-20 on his 7.3L, and I've heard of people getting higher numbers with the 6.0L

I wanted to add a couple things to this thread.

First, I've talked to a few people about the superduties with the 6.0l diesel. All of them said they were gettting 20-23mpg with them, and all were 4x4's if I remember correctly. Two people said they get 18-20mpg pulling sizable trailers. That's pretty darn good if you ask me.

Second, I actually got the good fortune (between huricanes ) to be invited to one of the few test drive events for the new Ford vehicles coming out in 2005. The Escape, Ford 500, and the new SuperDuty. The escape was boxy. The 500 was real nice and drove very well. The Superduty was just amazing.

Here's the specs on the one I drove.....

King Ranch 350 (of course )
Crew Cab
Short Bed
4x4
6.0L Diesel

This was one nice piece of machinery. They had a cut away section of the front frame at the event and man is this thing rugged. Read the literature on it. As far as driving it, it felt like my wifes 02 4x2 KR F-150 SuperCrew. It rode smooth on the paved course. It turned VERY well. They said they shaved an average 5.5' off the turning radius. The power of the 6.0L is stunning. They encouraged you to run it throught the paces. I scared the tar outa my wife when I stomped on it. I'm sure if I had hit it hard enough the tires woulda broke loose. In fact one of the other people there managed to do just that with same truck.

Features I really liked...
Manual AND Automatic hubs. One position is auto. Get out and rotate them into manual lock.

Integrated trailer brakes. The computer controls the brakes on the trailer. They had a test rig with a heavy trailer on it and that thing handled very well. People were pounding on that thing with the brakes and it never lost control on the dry pavement. Even though I didn't do that run, I could see the thing stopped that trailer in short order.

The steering rod was around an inch in diameter if not a little more.

The frame has a HEAVY support beam that goes from the frame under the front doors and braces/attached to the front wheels.

Front coils springs on the 4x4

I was considering getting a used 04 if we get a 5th wheel this year, but after seeing this thing we might either buy new or wait till we can find a low milage used 05.

Anyway, thought you guys would like hear my experience.
