Bye Bye Baby
Bye Bye Baby
It finally happened.
I went to move the truck this morning from one driveway to the other and it sounded, well, not good. It was like it was running on 7 of 8 cylinders, ouch.
So I called FRA and they quickly dispatched a, gulp, a flatbed! First time ever, having one of my rides, get a ride to the shop. Off it went to my Ford store for a look-see.
I had this problem about a month ago, but I was lucky enough to drive it into the dealer. Found out it had an ignition coil/plug that had gone bad. Let's see what this turns up. While it's in, I am hoping to get the back glass replaced, as my '01 was one of those that the slider molding took flight shortly after my taking delivery.
On a brighter note today, I picked up a set of the Blackwood lower window seals, with the chrome inserts...very nice, and received the KR hitch cover....very well made. Installation, unfortunately, will have to wait until the truck comes back to my driveway!

Don't feel too bad KR1, I went without my '01 KR for almost a year. Good luck getting it back and good working order.
BTW, I may be wrong but I don't think we've ever ran across one another before. But then again, I haven't been active for some time.

KR1,
I had to have the transmission repaired on my '01 KR at like 12K miles, the driving shell weld broke while I was leaving work one afternoon and I wasn't doing anything unusual. All the gears worked except third and it would skip right over it, oh and reverse is on the same clutch pack as third so no reverse. It was pulled onto a rollback and hauled to the Ford Store for repairs the next day. It was in the shop for more than a week, it sucked.

I bet I found you too late to make a recommendation. I've now replaced TWO ignition coils on my 2001 EB Expey 4.6. After making friends over beers with a Ford mechanic, he told me that the coils from 1999-2002 are fairly poorly made. They all will eventually go. My bill has been $900 both times, predominately labor. He said if (when) your next coil goes, have them replace everyone of the ignition coils at a cost of about $175 each and the labor remains the same. Hence, a $1,700 job replaces what could be a $7,200 job over the life of the motor.
Thanks for the thoughts.
My dilemea has sometimes been that since my father works my Ford dealer, it is sometimes tough to show frustration when something is not completed properly or untimely. I can't cause any waves...since alot of times I get things done above and beyond the norm for little or no additional charge. With that said, the car was towed in on Wednesday, and they have yet to work on it. There is a very good Ford tech who the Ford service advisor suggested look into this problem and fix it once and for all. He happened to be on vaca last week. Ouch.
The truck now has about 40k on it, and I am going to have the rear diff, coolant and trans fluids changed...is there anything else? Does the trans need to be power flushed, or is a simple change ok? Should I change the fuel filter too?
Esquire59, thanks, and as mentioned above, it is not even started yet, so your timing was still ok. I am going to visit the technician on Monday...personally give him the recommendation.
