A/C compressor question on the IceKing
A/C compressor question on the IceKing
I have just installed a Flex-a-lite 270 on the IceKing and have a problem/question: The plug that enters into the AC compressor from the bottom driver's side has two wires--gray and blue. The blue is a negative wire (tested with multimeter to the battery + and completed the circuit with the same voltage as across the battery poles). I have made an important discovery. You can disable the vehicle by disconnecting this plug (it will turn over but not start). You can achieve the same effect by connecting the blue wire to the FAL negative "ON" of the e-fan controller. I am wondering whether or not this plug is truly the A/C compressor clutch activation wiring. Is this so?
The fan works well in all other aspects and is noticeably quieter. I have wired in a switch for continuous 100% operation (when needed) that works like a charm. The FAL fans make a difference in acceleration but more importantly in the ability to hold OD in the hills.
The FAL fan instructions are difficult to interpret and do not include instructions to remove the old clutch fan. This is not too difficult to perform, just an oversight that should be corrected on their website. As usual I made an easy install much more difficult by soldering and heat shrink wrapping every connection. It added extra hours but I think that long-term reliability is worth the extra work. It looks pretty, too. I'll get a digital camera and post pix soon. I can also recommend web sites to help beginners with soldering...
