Ordering an 05 with no pricing?

Maybe this has been covered before....

I stopped in at a local Ford yesterday to inquire about the 05s. They said they could take an order, gave me the options book and said I would have the truck by late August at the latest.

Here is my question how do you order a truck when you don't have the pricing. They say they do it all the time. I don't know how you negotiate a price when:

A. They know you want that particular vehicle, you ordered it after all.
B. And you don't know what the pricing is so you can't really deal until you do.

Any info is appreciated. Right now I'm swinging back to the KR side from the Lariat side. Figure I'll just get a steering wheel cover and seat covers for when I make my dump runs, etc.

Thanks

Jim

Hi

It is almost certain that if you want to be one of the first with the '05 KR then you are going to have to bite the bullet and pay list price.

They are sure to be in demand for a while and dealers will get as much as they can while people are chomping at the bit to get one.

As far as pricing all you can do is look at the list price of a fully optioned Lariat and add a percentage on for the KR option.

Looking at the prices of the old model I would suggest banking on paying an additional 10% to cover the Castano leather etc.

I think you will find that the dealers themselves will probably not be given prices of options for a while so while they can order one for you the price won't be available for some time.

I would certainly suggest having around $40.000 set aside !!

Lenny - I would agree with most everything you said except for one thing, I think the 10% adder is a little steep. On 40g's that would be another $4000. I think you're probably looking more at the $1500-2000 range for the KR adder on top of a fully optioned Lariat. Just my $.02 worth.

Yes...you are probably right...I was erring on the side of caution.

Just my way .... look a little on the heavy side and hopefully get a pleasant surprise.

(Never seems to work out that way though !)

They way I have it figured the truck will cost 44k.

If I get the options I want:

backup sensor,
DVD ready
373 limited slip
audiophyle
powered rear window
skid plates, etc

I don't think there was an option I didn't opt for

Taxes, tags, etc.

I was one of the first to order a 2001, in March 2001. After working in the auto industry for over 12 years, I can tell you honestly, it depends on where you buy the truck. My dealer here in NJ, sold it to me at $500 over dealer invoice. The truck came in, I paid $500 over invoice, simple. (Maybe I should charge a fee on the internet as a buying service for cars/trucks) They count your truck as a "non-allocated unit", it does not go against their pre-determined allocation, in fact when we pre-order, the dealer gets the bonus of being allocated more cars next year. It is a unit for them, again subject to where you buy it, you should get a better deal than sticker.

Thanks again
