I can't clean my leather
Thank you all for your replies and advice. I know all of my questions/problems are old news to most of you, and it can get a bit old addressing the same issues, so thanks again for taking the time to help me out.
Also, sorry that my posts are always so long. Don't know why I do this.....lol
Tonight I went back up to Pep Girls and got 2 more bottles of Lexol, 2 for $10! (only place in town I can find it) I spent another couple of hours on the passenger seat alone. I used both bottles and the leather was still drinking it up, and starting to soften a bit. Yeah!
I'll have to wait until it dries in a day or two to be sure, but I think I'm starting to make some progress. I now am certain that these seats were never once cared for before I got this truck.
I will look for these other products you've mentioned, Leathermaster, Griot's & Zymol, but for the most part I seem to see that Lexol is the universal brand of choice on the site.
Is that accurate?
I've used (I think) ALL of Meguire's (sp?) waxes and dash treatment at one time or another, and have found them to be excellent quality. What is the general consciences on this site of their leather conditioner? I got a bottle of it tonight too and tried it on the center console. It seemed to do as good of a job as the Lexol, but left a soapy smell where the Lexol brings out the wonderful leather aroma.
Any more thoughts?...
Thanks, Kevin

Hey Kevin!
I have to agree with you on the deal at Peppy's... two for ten is an EXCELLENT deal!
I think that Lexol might be the league favorite but, that doesn't mean it's the end all. I'm still very interested in trying out the Leathermaster products (that Mike has mentioned several times) but still haven't as of yet.
I haven't really found any Meguiar's leather products that perform very well on the castano as it's very porus and soaks up just about anything that you get on it. I do, however, love Meguiar's two-step aloe cleaner & conditioner on coated leathers (like Lariat leather).
How do those seats look now?

I just went out to the truck at lunch and the passenger seat has finished drying. It has improved dramatically!! I mean, WOW! It's not as soft as the back seats *yet* but it's so much better.
Maybe another couple of bottles and it will be perfect!
Of course, I still have the driver's seat to do. (...fingers..so sore...)
BTW- I asked a question earlier in this thread and I haven't heard a response yet. Maybe it just can't be answered positively. But my steering wheel has a suede feeling to it now after I cleaned it. I used Johnson's baby wash, but when I went to wipe it off with a terry cloth rag it roughed up the leather. Is ther any way to restore it to its original smooth finish? Maybe some kind of tanning oil, or catcher's mit oil/conditioner?
Thanks again!

I'll second the recommendation on the StainSafe cleaner. It's designed for fine leather furniture, so it will work very well with the KR leather, which is of the same quality.
My 2001 KR was purchased used in November and the seats were a mess. The front seats and armrest were dirty and stained, and the leather was so dried out it looked like suede.
The StainSafe cleaner worked very well...had to clean them several times until the white towels I was using to wipe the suds off were no longer dark and stained from the dirt and grime of 2 and a half years of neglect. Highly recommended.
The StainSafe conditioner worked well, but it's rather "thin" and is a lot more trouble to use than the KR cream. But both worked. The seats in my KR are a LOT better than they were, still working on 'em...need some more KR conditioner...getting there.
The steering wheel on my truck was REALLY dirty...took quite a few cleanings to get it all off. Was so dirty that the filth ended up on the plastic of the steering wheel, has to use cleaner to get that off. Bought got it licked now...<g>
Get the StainSafe cleaner and the KR cream...both work.
