Purchasing Swath of KR Leather????

I am checking into replacing the front leather console cover (due to kid scribbling).
The part in Canada is a whopping $487.00.
I think the piece will have to be replaced rather than cleaned and dyed.
I check with the official King Ranch and due to an agreement with Ford they said they can not sell it - check with the dealership.
Although a local leather company did have some at one time but not anymore.
Does anyone know where to buy a piece to be stitched back in???

Rockpick will come back to you with the definitive answer on this as several people have tried to swap console lids in the past.

I doubt you will find a swatch (yes...the word is swatch) of that castano leather.

If we could get it there are some of us who would have covered everything in sight with the stuff....including some parts that aren't generally in view !!!

Long story short, you are *NOT* going to find genuine Castano Leather from King Ranch anywhere but from King Ranch. They have trademarks that cover this type of thing as do most manufacturers.

Now, to tell you that you aren't going to find a leather with very similar characteristics to the point that it would take a VERY trained eye to match it up. To date, however, I don't know of anyone that's found this item. (if you do, please post manufacturer, part number, and where you found it as they *WILL* sell copius quantities to Castano-addicted KR owners).

I seem to recall someone here that had an extra console assembly (as they were given one after some warranty work). I cannot, for the life of me, remember who that was though. I tried a quick search and also couldn't find the posts.

Yet another option is to watch ebay as I've seen one or two float across the screen there. You might also try contacting 'Damoncaravanman' as I think he changed his out and might have one (not sure here).

Last resort, you could buy a piece of luggage from the KR Saddle Shop and have it sliced and diced. That pains me to think about that but, I'm not sure I wouldn't go to that extreme to obtain the ultimate final result.

Best of luck to you and I'm sorry I'm not able to point you directly to a source. I've been dredging the waters to find King Ranch quality leather since I was introduced to Castano that would match and have generally the same characteristics... I haven't found it... *yet*. Please let us know how this turns out.

Hey Deemo, I have a couple seat backs that would do nicely for some custom upholstery. They are nice and large pieces of leather in the seat backs as well as the saddle bags. Drop me a line if you're interested, as these are quite a bit less than the price you quoted above.

Deemo, where are you?

If in the Toronto area, I would suggest going to the Hide House in Milton. As they are a tannery, they maybe be able to replicate the leather.

It won't be the genuine article, but they may be able to make it look the same.

After all, this is just saddle leather, isn't it?

$487 sounds way to steep to me. I had the center console and the steering wheel replaced by the dealer for about $340 (Ford covered the cost). I live in Texas and so shipping might me a little less. But not that much less.

If truck parts are so much more expensive in Canada, maybe we can start a Truck Suff for Prescription Drugs trading company.

You might try a search for leather shops in Kingsville. I have a buddy of mine that went to college in Kingsville and married a girl from there. When I got my new F250 KR in February I ran into them and she informed me that there is a shop not far from the saddle shop that sells the same items not branded with the "running W". That may be an option. I will see if I can find further information.

I thought of that, but I had both the console cover and the steering wheel replaced. I can't totally deceipher the receipt, but it appears that the cost was close to split down the middle, putting the console cover at about $170.

I mentioned in my latest post on 'Keyless Entry' that my neighbor Felix works at the Ford Truck Plant in Louisville. He told me that at his plant they are making the '05 F250 and 350 King Ranch model trucks. He told me that on a daily basis there are several seats the are set aside as defective and once or twice a week a guy comes to collect them and take them back to God knows where to be repaired or whatever.

So, I asked him to get me this guys name and number in the next week or so and if I manage to talk to him I will find out if it is possible to extra peices of leather. I have a very bad spot on one of my rear seats that would have to be replaced- there is simply no way it will clean well enough. I know a lot of you are in the same boat.

I will keep you informed in this post if I am able find out anything.
