Finally made it to the ford dealership to get the console lid replaced. The new lid has more stitching on it then the old one.
The old lid was more of a one piece design, the new one is 2 piece. The color is a lot darker than the first one. I never looked at the 03 KR possibly this is what they look like?. The cost of the lid was $185.00. Good thing it was still under warranty

 

I noticed a slight difference in a few of the newer KR lids myself. I suspect that they might be using a different supplier or different manufacturing methods and I think it's interesting that you've noted this.

If possible, can you take a few pictures and post them? I'd be interested in making the comparison based upon what you've seen.

Also, did they allow you to keep the old one?

Sorry, they never even gave me a chance to get the old one. Ford wanted it back. I will take some pics. ASAP.

 

After looking at the photos of esquire59's KR his console lid is what mine was changed to.

 

I can't tell any difference in his console lid and mine honestly... mine's a 2001 and was early in the KR production too...

I did notice a large difference in what the SuperDuty interior and mine looked like though... mine looked quite a bit better honestly. The leather seems to have gotten a tad thin maybe? It had a different feel almost.

My lid did not have the extra stiching in the middle of it. This lid is a little thicker than the first. My wife also noticed the difference between lids. She likes the new one also. One thing that this lid does have is alot more grain to the leather. The first one was smoother than this one. Not complaining at all.
