Today started out quite normally.

Then by 2pm this afternoon……….




I had traded my KR for an 04 Lariat !!!!

Why I hear you cry? I only had 8K on the KR.

Well I tried the 04 the other day and it is really a good ride, but as we know the KR won’t be available for a while yet.
I didn’t want to see the trade in value sink as more 04’s become available so I have bought the lariat until the KR comes out with the dealers agreement I will be offered the first they have.

As for the Lariat, I suppose the nearest color I could get to the KR would be Toreador Red over Arizona beige. Trouble is an order could take 3 months and it’s just luck whether one like that would come in to stock order.
Anyway I like the AZ beige….similar color to the Bentley back home.
I didn’t want the moon roof which this one has…I would have preferred the roof rail system for accessories. (The overhead cubby moves back and forth.)
I don’t like the fact there aren’t captains chairs in the back, or the huge locker, neither are there lockers behind the rear seats.
However the seat squabs now tilt back and allow more stuff to be carried inside.
The trip computer and fuel readout is also an improvement, though wifey doesn’t like the compass hidden down on the dash.
Also the floor mounted gear shift is way better than the slack column change .
Monday I am having a hard tonneau painted to match…I was at least pleased they were available locally for the 04.
Several companies I tried in Truckin mag said they wouldn’t have them for a while.
Anyway it does mean that I will have some bits and bobs from my 01 KR to pass on.
Dash mat, billet grill, new set of overmats, mud flaps, KR badges etc.
Later on if you will let me stay on the forum I will dispose of them by Dutch auction. Price starting low and getting lower until someone bites !!

So…that’s my day….hope I did the right thing !

Since you can definately afford it, I say why not. It's like getting the 04 KR in the new body style, just without the leather. I'm sure you just wanted something different and wanted the newest thing out I'm the same way. Congrats on the new truck and enjoy it. Congrats old boy, that's one beautiful ride and no KR candy for you. I've sat in a few of the '04s and one in particular was a Black/Beige one in TN. I still don't have warm fuzzies when sitting in one but it sure is different if that's what you were after. I think the new trucks are lookers but I'm not convinced that its what I'd like. As you may have heard, I'm in the market for an '03 4x4 EB Expy. I looked at the one I was to buy today and it has issues with corrosion underneath. I'll have to get all that crap fixed before I sink almost $38K on it.

I'll have to postpone my trade until further notice.

Right now I'm driving the KR with no radio as I've sold my entire stereo system and I had also sold my factory KR radio so now I'm without tunes:o .

I have to agree with the mirrors especially.....already thinking about the prospect of getting them color coded.....BUT as we don't intend keeping it more than a year I will try to live with it.

Money spent at this stage is money down the drain.

No....I gave the impression of not thinking I was going to do this but I had researched the idea and was prepared to walk out of the dealers if they didn't match what I had in mind.
And it does have nice leather...not Santa Gertrudis I grant you but it is nice.
Strangely it is identical in color and quality to the leather interior of our Volvo station wagon in the UK....as they are now really Ford I wonder if the source is the same.

Lenny Lenny Lenny.... I'm at a loss for words (which is VERY rare). I hate to see you go however; I had a hunch that you might be contemplating this move after your email a few weeks ago stating that you'd checked out an 04. I must say, I'm very sad to see you, as a founding father of the KR clique leaving, however, I certainly understand.

The 04 is a VERY nice vehicle and I know you're going to like it. I've said in previous posts that no one apparently really followed that I would trade my KR in on the Lariat that I checked out the other day, if my finances were where they needed to be. In a sense, I'm envious.

I wish you nothing but continued success in everything that you do and, take this as a threat, if you don't continue to grace us with your constant dry banter, we'll be forced to swim over there (as most of us can't afford to fly that damn far) and kick your English accented butt. Ta Ta...

I'm not deserting the KR.

I'm gonna get the 04 KR ASAP !

In the meantime I might just fit my spare KR badges on the Lariat....at least I'll be there in spirit.

The really strange think is that my wife and I went out to dinner tonight and both wore our KR shirts for the first time.

Will it help if I put my spare set of KR overmats in the new truck and promise to wear our KROC shirts everytime we drive it ?

PS Why hasn't Sarah surfaced lately.....do you think she went and bought that XK8 ?

Surely that would be real treachery...unless she kept the KR as well of course !
