How much of a load can you expect to put in the Yak. That fiberglass lid might limit the capacity.
Did you have to drill and seal the rails?

Your post looked lonely, so I had a couple of questions.

Damon,

I thought it was an Expedition at first, sorry and this was the first time I saw this thread. It looks good but I don't understand the need as I'm a plain kind of truck guy.

Later,

~DM~

Like Daveman, I totally missed this thread somehow...

I like the look man. I have to agree, it does resemble a Expy...

I guess I'm missing it too...why would you throw stuff up in a rack on a shell when it go into the back? ....it seems the amount of space it would take to carry a ladder around to access the rack would be more than what you could carry up there.... It it suits your fancy though... go with it...

1.) It can hold 250 to 300 lbs. That is from the topper manufactuer. The basket itself can take 400 lbs.

2.) It was either put a roof rack up there or put 4 brackets and add the Yakima bars. I opted for the rack for a cleaner look. Yes, there are 4 holes up there and they are sealed, just like adding a roof rack to any vehicle. It is also warrantied if it leaks, I did pressure wash up there to test and no leaks.

3.)Yrs, I have had others say why didn't you get an expy, well first thing, I can't take the roof off of an expy. I have taken the shell off a couple of times to move something. If I ever want to change the look I can take the cap off.

4.)No windnoise problems.

5.)Since I do go camping, I throw stuff up on top and use the bed as well.

6.)I really like the look of that Safari rack and I plan to add some lights, they are very versital systems as I can also add the ski boards on to it. When I add the off raod lights, I do not have to drill into the roof of the truck or cap. When I put my CB antennae up, it can mount to the rack. There is also a spare tire carrier that can attach to the rack.

Did I answer the questions? Thanks for the responces.

Yeah, I can see the need for something like that. Especially if you go camping for a week or so and do the tent thing. 300 pounds would hold the tent(s) bedding and some clothing pretty easy. Kinda cool once I think about it. The beds in the supercrew aren't all that big. Back when I was in Oregon we filled up an 8' box and were looking for more space when we went on the long tent trips.

Now my Dad's 9' flatbed F350, that rules.

It looks great! The only thing I have is, those headlight covers are kinda out of place looking (the partially black ones with holes in them....) But each to his own, everything else looks nice!
