Thumbs down Ford Not Replacing Steering Wheel due to discoloration...

Hey guys/gal...

I got the "final word" i guess from Ford customer service saying that this is not covered. I know that Rockpick and dufunnel got their steering wheels replaced, why not mine? Did they call it something else RP? dufunnel? They said it is wear and tear and it isnt covered and it "is the warmth from your hands, not necessarily the wet sweat that discolors it." I would appreciate any help here as i am going to make this a conquest of mine and won't quit!!! Thanks.

I tried this on my Lariat. Very politely asked and was told to get a steering wheel cover (as if these wheels aren't hefty enough as is) because Ford wasn't standing behind it.

Joe,

Long story short, I really didn't figure they'd replace it after you showed it to me.

Mine had a 'nap' to the leather and a misstiched spot is why they replaced mine. Plus, I have a damn good service writer that loves me.

The fact of the matter is that the leather WILL discolor by touching it and it's due to the natural oils that are in your skin. Sure, you wash your hands frequently however; they're still there. It's just like the leather, if the oils weren't in it, it'd dry out and you'd be in mega-pain.

I'm sorry that they said no but, like I said, it really doesn't suprise me. Plus, you've been down at the stealership quite a bit lately... might have used up all of your get out of jail free cards too quickly. Just a thought...

You might try another stealership in the area and see what they can do... Ford keeps records of calls that YOU make to the call center however; they, to my knowledge, don't keep track of denied warranty work per VIN. So...with that being said, I'd try another stealership.

If worst comes to worst... the part # is: 1L2Z3600AAJ

Joe:
I haven't done my steering wheel yet - that is today's project. It took the cheese stain out fairly well, but the best results were on the sweat stain on my centre console. I suspect it might work well on the steering wheel.
I wet a clean rag and put a pen-cap-full or so onto the rag and scrubbed it in until it foamed. Then I took another clean rag and wet it down and wiped away the soap.
Viola!

Mine was replaced due to the sun bleaching it and it starting to crack. I had used the conditioner regularly and it still did it, so that was the reason they replaced mine. If it is just getting darker from the oils in your hands, that is not sufficient enough for them to replace it. If you have the ***** to try it, you may try some leather cleaner on it to strip some of the oils out of it, but you may also ruin the leather even more. Of course if you do that you may try a different dealer and see if they will replace it.

Sorry man...

It looks like it's exclusive to Canada and possibly Europe.... it's not even on USA's www.dove.com site.

Hey RP....

I called you a "Stupid Boy".

Besides the fact that you might well be that (Well probably actually)...it's really almost a compliment on this side of the pond.

For many years one of our best loved comedies was called "Dad's Army" about a group of elderly home guard whose job was to protect the South Coast should Jerry get too close.
One of the group was a young lad called "Pike" who couldn't get into the real army (Flat feet or something).
He was always doing silly things and the leader of the platoon was always saying....
"You stupid boy"., in a way that became a national catch phrase...the emphasis was strongly on the word stupid.
Anyway....(Am I boring you)....the writer was a well known author of many sitcoms called Jimmy Perry and when he wrote his autobiography he called it
"A Stupid Boy"

I was the first person to receive a signed copy and was pictured with the author...so here it is...a chance to get back at me after the ribald comments about your pic with the Tee Shirt.

Oh yes...I'm the one on the right !!!!

I mean there's old....and really old !
