This is a standard full size van in Iceland. I see these all over the place. Icelandic DMV laws state that you must have fender flares big enough to overlap the tire and the total width of the vehicle (with tires) can not exceed the width of the road lane. Mud flaps are required for all trucks and lifted vehicles. I don't know the heighth of the truck but when I was talking to this guy he was about 5' 9" tall. I particularly like the ladder on the other side.

Holy Cow!! "YOUR TIRES MAY SERVE AS A FLOTATION DEVICE" My Brother in law was stationed in Iceland in the early nineties for a couple of years. Keep the pics coming, it's interesting.

This is some sort of quarry I found while driving through a Lava field. Hey RP can you explain the colors?

Hard to tell from a distance but, I do have a couple of guesses...

First, it's something leaching out of the protolith (parent rock)... Hard to tell exactly 'what' it is but, that's my first hunch.

Second guess is that it's something that was already there that is being oxidized. Some Fe rich rock that is, well, simply, rusting.

Thirdly, might be something biological. A lot of fungus types attach to rock and generally help to deplete and errode it... not sure.

None the less, that is one AWESOME PICTURE. I can't wait to see more.... keep them coming!!!!!!

I'm really enjoying it!

Sarman,

Man, those are some cool pics. I'm so envyous of your adventure. I'd give RockPicks left &*( to visit there for a short period of time and not while snowing like a ****.

Stay safe, looks like there are a lot of places in Iceland that could be dangerous.

Later,

~DM~

Recently watched the Discovery channel. Show was on volcanoes. Showed the one which occurred on Iceland a few years ago. One fishing village set up huge hoses to cool the lava to form a barrier in order to protect the village. Pretty interesting stuff.
So don't be taking your KR into any 'hot' spots!
