Interesting little story.

Went down to Brownsville this morning to get a service on the KR.....(Thinking of taking a trip out to Las Vegas next week).

While waiting a guy pulled up in a white 03 KR and was obviously pointing out to the service reception guy his pinstriping which was pulling away.
I butted in and pointed out that this had been an issue from the word go....it still doesn't seem to be any better.

Anyway while I was chatting to this guy a Rolls Royce pulls into the dealership.

Strange thinks I....only ever seen one Rolls in the valley before (You lot understand my interest !).
Anyway I mention this to the guy with the white KR and he says "Don't you know who that is?"

"It's Frank Yturria" (Pronounced Whyturia).

That is a name well known in the valley as he just happens to own the King Ranch !!!

Anyway it turns out he knows the people at the dealership and they let him use their facility to load up his Rolls into a Mayflower truck to be shipped out to Palm Springs where he obviously spends part of each year.

(You'd think he would drive a KR.......now if he did a deal with RR to have a King Ranch Rolls Royce....that really would be something....except most people in Europe have never heard of the King ranch. )

Hey Ho !

I don't think the RR people would care if they heard of the KR or not once they get one sniff of our intoxicating leather.

Well...I havnt kept up w/ the Ranch since Tio Left.....but up until the mid 90's Tio Kleberg was considered the Owner...then Tio left and the Ranch turned into a Coprorate Style organization. They now have a board and all the Heir's to the ranch are owners and it is setup in Undified interests.... I know all this cause I went to school w/ Jay Kleberg, Tio's son...

This guy may sit on the board...but he sure as hell doesnt own it.... The Kleberg family does and always will. They married into the Kings which is why it changed names.

Frank Yturria is a very big name in the area of Texas land conservation and he does own a ranch with about 1000 head but he does not own The King Ranch.

Yes you guys...since I mentioned this story to friends who have lived in South Texas all their lives, they too expressed surprise at the name Frank Yturria.
They similarly knew he owned a neighboring ranch but thought not the KR itself.
This I only found out today since mentioning the story I heard to them.
The strange thing was that at the dealership yesterday those two separate groups told me what they did.
Guess that's how these stories get about !!

Lenticular..

I am a friend of Bruce Cheesman, he was the archivists of the King Ranch's private library and museum. He was let go after he gave a few copies of letters that were supposed to be confidential to the Chapman Family, which were enough for them to file a lawsuit against the Klebergs because the letters explained how the Kings stole a few million acres of propery south Of Corpus Christy and they are seeking $$ for lost inclome....prolly in the trillions since that is the land that is richest w/ natural gas.

But neways..it would take hours of typing to explain the mess....but he is the man to talk to...hell I even own a thousand acre ranch in Kleberg county that borders the king ranch...who doesnt?
