KR interior mod?

call it cabin fevor, but I have had this idea in my head for months now. I hate the interior of Tomas....ok hate is a little strong.....don't particularly care for.......I was considering putting the wood trim in the truck, but the more I looked at how it looked in Mom's Lariat the more I thought how ridiculous it would look in Tomas.....ok ridiculous is also a bit harsh......not to my liking is better.......so I was thinking of pulling the trim around the stereo off and taking it to a leather shop and seeing if the could cover it with some leather that matched the existing leather. I also wanted to recover the door....but not the plastic trim piece....the piece that runs parallel with the door that is a tone off from the existing beige......have I lost everyone yet? I want to see about covering that with the leather too.

Does anyone think these two mods could be done?

i was thinking how sweet that would look also. glad to see your thinking along the same lines. you should be able to get it done no problem and you even might be able to do it yourself if you have that much time on your hands. your going to need to get some pretty thin leather, thinner than what's on your seats, and wet it to form it over the pieces and then clamp it down so it forms over the pieces. after it has formed they you'll just glue it down. i'd get some pieces from the junk yard so you can always go back to your stock look if you don't like it. tandy leather might have what you need to glue it with and i sent several leather links to the list some time ago. i'd call a place and send them your planner you got so that they can see exactly what color you need and they can just send it back to you with your order. i'd also make paper cutouts of each of your parts you want to cover with apporpriate amounts left around each part for folding it over and then arrange them like puzzle pieces so you can buy the minimum amount of leather as it won't be cheap to be sure.

Here is a thought, I had some qwesome light colored wood in my 2001 Supercrew and wish it was in my KR, maybe. But after getting the 03 KR and seeing what Ford added in as wood on dash and doors I like it. Have you seen the 03 KR? I will see if I can add a pic. It really makes the KR interior match better and come togather. It is just around the radio/ac and then on each door. Look at it and I think you would like it. The wood kit is oem and is not the stick on type that doesn't exactly fit. So, in my opinion, order the wood dash/door pieces that come on the 03 KR from Ford. Don't try to put leather there. IMOP!!!!

On the door pieces, that is a good idea. On my 01, I never really liked that on the doors (dark taupe). It doesn't bother me much anymore, but the leather (matched to the castano) I think would look great.

Here are the pics of the interior wood standard on 03 KR.

Here is the light wood kit in the 01 Supercrew I had.

Damon, I just noticed something in the interior pictures of your 03 King Ranch, your console is not like the one in my 03 KR.

Your console goes all the way up to the dash and has the package tray, mine stops at the cup holders--go figure.

For those who missed the previous thread a few months ago, I put the wood trim kit I got from EBay on my '01 KR and it fits and looks just great.
When I have time later today I will either repost the pics or try to trace the thread.

Or RP might do it for me...I know he has lots of time to spare !!!

Jay,
Yes I did add this console to my KR. I had it in my 01 Supercrew after reading about the mod two years ago and did it. When I traded my 01 for the 03, I stripped it down and took all off as it would fit the 03. I also took out the expy console hoping to put it in the KR. I tried to live with out the expy console (as I was being told, you don't need it and quit spending money) and could not live with with out it. Need all the extra storage and bins!! There was the issue with the lid though not matching asit was not the leather. So it sat in my storage for a month and I searched for the KR leather. I gave up as it was very very hard to find KR leather. Even the KR saddle shop would not sell some to me. So it was either buy a used KR seat (expensive) or find a close match. See the Supercrew lid is not the same as the expy lid. The expy lid is longer and a little wider. So I had a shop take my KR lid and strip it and add some close match leather (2 to 3" long and 11") to the back and put it on the expy lid. It matched great.

Lenticular,
I was not trying to put down aftermarket dash trim kits, but I know that the Ford ones do match up perfect!! I loved the aftermarket trim kit I had in the 01 Supercrew as it was a light colored wood and if Ford had not put in the wood dash in the KR, I would have done the same. I would love to see the pics of yours.

Another thing, I know that the Harleys come with the Expy type console in theres, atleast the 03 models I saw, so I wonder why it was not an option for us KR people.

I'm in exactly the same boat with you on that one Skagel. I think it's fine and dandy for those who like it because I've always lived by the 'it's your truck... do with it what you please...' motto.

I bought the same kit that Lenny has on his truck off of ebay. Great value as it was the OEM kit for the 01 that was available in the accessories catalog from Ford (heck, it even came in a Ford box). I just didn't like the way it looked with the leather. Don't get me wrong, it was a VERY nice kit but, I didn't like the look of the DARK wood with the DARK leather. Just didn't suit my tastes...

but it does look great in a Larait. I think it looks great in Mom's truck.

I hopefully will find some time to start looking for leather to cover my stereo trim and door with in another week.

I wonder how a really soft deer hide would look? I've had some deer hide gloves that look alot like the beige in these trucks. It would be unique at the very least. hmmmmm
