Lariat to King Ranch
Hello KRers! I'm considering trading in my '01 Lariat SuperCrew for an '03 KR SuperCrew and am hoping ya'll can share your experiences with me about your seats. First, although the Castano leather is a no-brainer, I found the KR captains chairs to be a little stiff and restricting during my test drive. Do the raised, side cushions become more pliable and comfortable with use? Also, I noticed that the rear 60/40 split bench seats are raised much higher than in my '01. I'm not the tallest guy (5'11") but I was hitting my head on the roof of the cab. Has anyone experienced their passengers bumping their heads while four wheeling etc. Thanks, I appreciate all your input.
My wife's truck (02) has the bench in the back. I've ridden back there a couple times. I'm 6'5" and I don't have much problem with it. As long as the person in front of me has the seat up a little (knees).
As far as the sides on the front seat, I do have a slight probelm with that. We've had the truck for almost a year now and it still seems to "bite" into me a little. It's not as bad as when we first got it, but we took a trip a couple weeks ago that we traveled for several hours, and my right hip/leg started to hurt a bit. Now, take into consideration that if I drive my Expedition on a long trip the same thing will happen to me, it was just more pronounced, it seemed, in the KR. The Expi has a lot flatter softer seat in it. The only cars I've owned/driven that didn't bother me were a 96 S-10 (cloth) and an 83 LeSabre coup (rolling couch).

I, as well as every other KR owner out there, will tell you this: The leather is addictive. There's something about it that makes you want it more. You'll enjoy the KR. I promise that.
Keep us posted on what you decide to go with... even if it's not the KR.

Thanks for the replies Rock Pick and ViperGrendal. I went back to the dealer today to check out the KR seats again. I'm coming around to the new (to me) captan's chairs after my third test drive but the raised rear 60/40 bench has still got me concerned. It appears that when Ford went to the theater seating (Gen. III?) they also changed the roof molding in the '01 that gave you a little more headroom. The KR, Lariat and XLT (with and without moonroofs) that I looked at today all had the same change. My girlfriend loved it because she could see over the front seats and more of the road. I'm worried because I put a lot of full sized people in the back. Maybe I can drop the seats back down to their original level?
Well, I don't know about dropping the seats down, but I imagine it could be done with enough will and ingenuity.
I do have something else to say, ehem...
Super Duty F-250 Crew Cab King Ranch Edition, ehem...
Common, you know you want it, we all do.

Just my "Tuppence" worth about the KR seats...at least from the point of view of comfort.
My back isn't in the best condition it might be.....something to do with my superior age....never admitted hereabouts!
I can tell you that a couple of hours in some vehicles is quite enough seatwise. The KR however has some of the most comfortable and supportive seats I've ever used. The regular 7 hour trip to and from Houston that we have to make used to bother me......now I quite look forward to it.
Especially when returning to the States after a few months without the KR.
So don't be afeared on that score at least !!

I'm a little befuddled too TroyK. From what I can tell, when Ford raised the rear bench seats (Gen. III?) they also lowered the roof molding right above and to the side of where your head would be. The result is that in the '03 KR, Lariat and XLT I checked out (w/ or w/o moonroof), I bumped my head slightly when sitting next to either of the rear windows. This is a minor issue on an otherwise amazing truck, but I'm hesitant to drop $35K and have my back seat passengers be uncomfortable. Although the 250 KR is a beautiful sight, its just more truck than I need.
