Unhappy Sad, Sad day

I sold my King Ranch yesterday . It was a tough thing to do. But I really had no choice. My company is transfering me to the South side of Atlanta, I live on the North side. It's about 50-55 miles each way through Atlanta traffic. At 13 miles a gallon it just won't work. I won't tell you what I got, cause you'd just make fun of me. You guys aren't cruel like the Lightning guys, but you'd still probably make fun. The only thing I pulled out of it was my Superchip so if anyone is interested let me know. The computer code is "SUB1". I have it posted on the classifieds.

Although I don't post much, I read almost everyday, so this is a big loss to me. I feel like I personally know most of you, especially "Rockpick" I could go into the similarities between the two of us, everything from Satellite Radio to the exact same two watches, but it would be too weird...

Keep enjoying your trucks, I know I'd like to...

1MK,

It ain't the end of the world, you can still visit the board. BUT, in the meantime, it appears you need to get your priorities straight. Clean up your resume, and get another job! A KR for a ? (could it be, nah, not a ricer?) How could anyone go from a KR to, to.... oh, it's too gruesome to think about, let alone put in print.
Look at the brighter side, Ford keeps makin'em, and they get better every year, so you just get another a little further down the road.

Sad Indeed

That's a hellacious commute if you have to go thru town and traffic congestion. This commute is going to affect your quality of life, no doubt, regardless of what kind of vehicle you are driving.

Any chance of relocating? Is a female *heh* advising you on this issue? How many hours a day will you be gone between work and commuting/days per week.

If I ever get relocated back to the north side (permanantly) I'll definately get another. But as it is it won't happen for at least 18mos. My company doesn't like to move people around that much. I doubt that I could find another job in my field, in this economy, that pays as much as I make now. Besides I have a kid in high school that plays baseball for several local teams as well as the school. He has real good prospects of getting into a good college if he can stay consistant. I'm also pretty well established in our small town.

1mean...

We certainly understand and hate to see you go. Don't be a stranger. You're always welcome here.

Take care of yourself and best of luck to your boy in HS. Make sure he enjoys the last few years of ball. I miss playing... Those were the days.

Thought about a SVT Focus, but it would be too small in Atlanta traffic. It would be fun, but way too small.

Sorry to hear! But you could get a cheap used F-150 and pay a small amount, then get another KR!! If you haven't gotten another vehicle yet. Once you have owned a KR your always in the club unless you get a Chevy or Dodge!! LOL

1meanking,

If it's not an SVT Focus it should be a Lightning! (oh yeah the mileage thing ) (sorry still miss mine)

Maybe sit your Dept. head in the King for a few to show them what you're sacrificing for the man and at least get a raise!

I understand that moving might not be an option for you because of your kid. I moved from Lawrenceville to Midtown because of traffic (90 minutes each way, and one accident-filled -- not mine, thankfully -- evening on I-85, three hours to go 30 miles) and since then moved from Midtown to East Atlanta. I love it. Housing options in downtown are no longer limited to industrial lofts or stately (and unaffordable) historic mansions. They're building townhomes, renovating turn of the century bungalows, and building new homes consistent with the architecture of the neighborhood. I bought my house in a new subdivision called Village Walk of East Atlanta with my fiancee last year in June and we couldn't be happier. Click here for some pictures.

I know what you mean by mileage thing. My '02 supercab KR 5.4 keeps around 14 mpg and I have to fill up once a week. My commute is only 6 miles each way but I run home for lunch most days and on weekend, we drive around in my truck rather than in my fiancee's Accord.

As for gas mileage, I may get an used Golf TDI and use that for commute. Can't beat the MPG and it's even chippable to close to double the HP. (only 90 HP to start with but the torque of a diesel engine. ) Click here for TDI forum.

Sorry to hear about selling the King Ranch, but I feel for you on the gas mileage thing. I hate giving a good portion of my pay check to the Arabs and Oil Companies each week.

I leave my 03 King Ranch in the garage and drive a 74 VW Super Beetle and drive the KR on weekends. The missus and I have considered geting a TDI VW Jetta or New Beetle just for commuting--I hear they get close to 50 mpg highway.

Hey 1mean,

Sorry to hear about the KR, I can only imagine how it would affect me emotionally and RockPick psycholgically. Congrats on your new job, I assume it must be better or you wouldn't be transferring. I live about 5 hours from Atlanta so if you're ever in the Charleston area, look me up and I can take you for a ride in my KR and we can drink a beer, at a bar of course.

BTW, what do you do for a living and why Atlanta?

I too seem to lurk the forums anymore and haven't posted for some time. Something happened and I just can't put my finger on it as to why I seem to have lost interest in the activities or the lack there of.

Did you get a good trade in value on your KR, did they steal it from you or did you sell outright?

Later and the best of luck to you and Family

~DM~
