Going to try and post up my own tuner thread, but all the responses I have seen over there seem pretty old.

that 14 qts of mercon v is for tranny pan drop drain and fill AND the torque converter drain and fill by removing it's drainplug? or am I looking at more fluid?

Just a pan drop only requires 5 quarts.

I'm partial to Amsoil in the engine, trans, and diffs if cost is not an issue. Use Motorcraft XL-3 limited slip additive in the rear. Use Motorcraft XL-12 in the transfer case.

4 oz or 8 oz of friction modifier for the rear? (I have seen both)

went shopping today, got some stuff, still need to get more though

got 2 qts of ford xl12

2 bottles of 4oz lubegard friction modifier

6 qts of 5w-20 amsoil signature oil

1 qt of Bosch brake fluid (Dot 3,4,5.1)

2 qts 75w-90 amsoil severe gear

3 qts 75w-140 severe gear

picked up a printed haynes manual today, it says I am supposed to use mercon for the power steering fluid?

as far as the Mercon V for the tranny/tc ---- amsoil doesn't have a mercon 5 specific product ---- is

Signature series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid
https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produ...?code=atfqt-ea

ford also has quite a few different coolant formulations, my haynes manual says either Motorcraft Premium Engine Coolant (green in color) or Motorcraft Premium Gold Engine Coolant (yellow in color) in a 50/50 mix with distilled water --- Amsoil does also make some coolant, should I go with that? or is the OE fine?

Use coolant the same color as what is in the cooling system now. Mercon is available at the parts stores.

The coolant in it is the color of coffee, as is the brake fluid, hence, why I am changing it.

I know I can get factory Mercon @ the parts store, even Walmart has it.

My question was about the Amsoil ATF -- the Amsoil ATF says it covers Mercon 5 and Mercon. Should I be using Mercon for the power steering? or change it out to the X12 like what I will be using in the transfer case?

What about the Amsoil coolant?

I did pick up an ATP transmission filter for the pan drop, and will also be getting a fuel filter. I have also ordered a Spectre chrome rear diff cover with new bolts.

Also picked up some Wagner front E coated rotors and some PosiQuiet pads

You shouldn't mix the new long life coolant with the older type that needs changing every couple of years. The older type is green and probably what came in your truck.

I seem to remember reading that you shouldn't use trans fluid that is "compatible" with Mercon or Mercon V.

I would also buy a gasket for the rear diff cover. Using the silocone crap is a great way to get a leak whick will require you to dump your expensive rear lube and try again.

The Amsoil ATF works well in the tranny and power steering. You can use any Ford spec coolant as long as you do a thorough flush. Just do NOT use GM Dexcool

don't worry, I will not use Chevy coolant

My local parts store has OEM coolant, in like 5 colors! that's why I originally was puzzled about it.

I will be picking up the Amsoil ATF sometime this weekend

I figure @ 174k miles, and an unknown history, I should change the fluids

Also going to do rear pads, rotors, and shoes

I do need to figure out how to tell what my front gear ratio is, I think I figured out the rear, but notsure onn the open front

It is the same as the rear, otherwise if you put it in 4wd it would lock up.
