Hi my name is Michael, I'm almost 21 and just joined the forum. I currently drive a '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee and have been with JeepGarage.org forum for about 2 years. I have always wanted an F-150. My neighbor has a buddy who is selling his 2005 F-150 Fx4 extended cab with 73k miles. I am going to check it out in a few days, what are a few problems I should be aware of and look for?

I know about the spark plugs breaking so I'm going to have that done, along with new fluids(diffs, trans/filter, oil change, coolant) and it needs tires. What else should I look for? Thank you and I look forward to this forum!

Welcome! Check out the 4x4 real well, make sure it is all working as it should. Change fuel filter and clean the MAF anf throttle body. Take a look at the brake pads, too.

Thank you! Is there any common problems to be aware? I'm currently browsing the site so forgive me being a newbie and if the question has been asked already?

No problem. There is an issue with fuel injectors leaking on 2005s. Ford issued an extended warranty letter as they got a bad batch of injectors from their manufacturer. If there is any reason to suspect you are have a leaky injector, you need to get it checked and replaced before it hydrolocks the enhine. It will be hard to start, run like it is flooding, if it is stuck open. It will just have a miss if stuck closed. Has not happened often, but a few have experienced it. I had an 05, put 135,000 trouble free miles on it. Loved the truck.

here is Ford's letter:

Welcome aboard... looks like Jim has pointed you down the right path. I recently traded my 2005 that had about 111k on the odometer. Overall, GREAT experience with the truck. I did, however, have the injector problem (two injectors stuck open - fortunately, did not hydrolock the motor). It was taken care of under warranty but, it was a butt-pucker moment when the motor made the sound that it did...

I'd have ZERO problem buying another 05'.

Welcome!

Went and looked at the truck today.. a few cosmetic flaws but nothing mechanically wrong. Runs good but forgot to check the 4wd. I'm going to apply for a loan this week and hopefully get the truck soon. So excited!!

Welcome, and best of luck with the truck. AT that mileage, it has plenty of good live in it.
Post some pics when you have it.
