Question seat noise

I have a f-150 '01 sport with 30,000 miles and I noticed lately if I turn the lumbar down on the seat it squeak's like there is a bad spring. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I think it would be covered under 36,000/3year.

Heh, I didn't want to be the one to ask that question. I have an '02 with 3k miles on it, and mine squeaks. It's annoying. I guess it would be covered....I'm going to ask when I go into the dealer next.

They told me that there is a piece of melt that rubb's when the lumbar is turn all the way down. If you turn it up a little bit it doesn't squeak anymore.

So, they won't fix it, they just give you a work-around. Nice.

Mine squeaks whever I move in the seat. I am a XXL guy, but it squeeks when my 125 lb girlfriend sits in it too.

I will try the lumbar adjustment and see if that helps. Either way, I want the seat fixed/replaced.... giving me a work around so that the problem isn't noticable is not acceptable.

Ok, I tried inflating the lumbar and the squeaking got a lot worse. Time for a service call.

I will play with my lumbar also. I have the squeek in my seat, but it only makes that noise when I first get in. After a while of driving it goes away. If only I could get some grease in there.

Well, I went to the dealer today and they seem to have fixed it!

They had 3 techs looking at it for the better part of 2 hours. They ended up taking the seat off and replaced the outside seat bracket and some of the linkage mechanisms under the seat. They also found that a bolt on the other bracket was not tight to spec. Once they tightened up that bolt and replaced all the stuff they replaced, if is perfect and silent.

Their computers were down today, so I don't have a printout of exactly what they did - they are mailing it too me.

But, the long and the short of it is that its fixed Now, we prey that it stays fixed

My lumbar support has been broken since I bought my truck. So, the other night I decided to do something about it. I found out it was a broken cable, took it out, and swapped it with the one from my dads F150. While I had the seat torn apart, I checked into the squeaking problem. What I found was the two of the wire supports (used as springs) under the seat had broken. These two were on the drivers side edge and I figured it happened after getting in and out of the truck so many times. A simple fix I found was to use a wrap tie and tie the next spring (parallel with the broken ones) to the frame of the seat. This tightened up the springs and quieted down the squeak.

I got that squeck problem as well on my 01 sport with the 60/40 seat. It is on the passenger side. With mine it is located towards the bottom left side. It is diffently some kind of spring making the noise. I push just the one spot and it squeaks. Mine has 28,000 miles on it. I wll try the lumbar but I can't really seeing that have anything to do with it. You can tell its a spring, a bad one.

I am going to call Ford Monday if I have the chance for them to either fix it or to order a whole new seat driver and passenger side. The warranty states 3yr/36,000 mile bumper to bumper that means EVERYTHING is covered except normal wear items of which the seat is NOT.

Sounds like something is screwed up with either the design of these seats or the quality itself. Oh well Ford trys to save a few bucks only to have to spend MORE money in the end. When are these big business's going to learn how to run a business succesfully?????

I agree...

Unfortunately I do not have a warranty and when I take the seats out while dynomating I am going to try a real fix. My dads new Z71 seats are quiet, why cant ford make a cloth seat that does not squeak? (Probably just a problem with the 60/40 bench?)
