Garage Door Remote Compartment

Just bought a used 2000 F150 that has the compartment for the garage door opener. How is that supposed to work? I have it velcro'd in there, but it seems there must be more to it than that. Am i supposed to have the little pegs lined up to hit the buttons on the remote?

Yep. If I were a doctor you would have to pay me $150 for the consultation.

don't waste your time w/ it.
the sticky side of the velcro won't stay stuck to the plastic in hot weather. the first garage door remoteI had in their fell, and the button was being pushed for several hours before I came out and found it. It broke a plastic piece that held the gears together inside the opener, and I had to manually open and close the doors for several months before I got it fixed.
We moved and I tried to set it up again, but the remote wouldn't stay in place for more than 3 or 4 times before I had to readjust the remote.
Now I havethe remote sitting in the compartment, and I just flip the lid down to use it.

Not to mention that it is in a poor location within the vehicle and really reduces the effective range of the transmitter.

Since I don't have a garage I just put my radar detector up there when not in use.

There should be about 4 square pieces of plastic that fit in the holes on the cover. You stack as many of those plastic pieces on the door under the transmitter switch as needed to have them touch the switch when you push up on the compartment door.

I didn't like the plastic squares so I found a 1/4" rubber hose cap that was the right length and used it instead.

As others have mentioned using that compartment really reduces the range of the opener transmitter.
