Question Seats different on Ext Cab vs Supercrew

I was wondering if anyone has noticed that the seats in the F150 Supercrews are different from the F150 ext cab trucks? I have been looking at trucks and had noticed the Supercrew seats feel different. To me they feel like they have too much lumbar. Ok, I know you guys love your Supercrews and I'm not for one second putting them down, but after going back and forth between Supercrews and Ext cab trucks it was definite that there was a difference between the seats. So I started looking at the seats to see if there was a visable differance. Sure enough there is. The Supercrew seats have a wider head rest than the seats in a ext cab truck. The sides of the seat that form the bucket come to the top closer together on the ext cab trucks, causing the head rest to have to be smaller. This is true on 60/40 bench and captain chair seats. Otherwise I don't see any difference in the seats and I doubt most dealers even know there is a difference. I compared trucks right off the transport and trucks made in Oct and Nov 2001, all 2002 models, and all were that way. Bottom line for me is the seats in the Super crew are too uncomfortable for that reason. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to modify the seats to have less lumbar as the ext cab truck seats do? Again please don't write and tell me how much you love your Supercrew, this isn't a put down. I'm on my 3rd F150 and plan to stay with one. I really want a Supercrew, but the seats would keep me from getting one. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

the big problem with switching them between the 2 is that the seatbelt is made into the supercab seats, thats why the seatback is shaped different.

Wink I assume you adjusted it down

Even with the lumbar support turned all the way down, there was still too much?

I guess you could go into the seat and "adjust" it further or even remove the support completely. Better yet- have the dealer do it as part of the purchase agreement.

jefflaws,

Thanks for the info. You are right about the seatbelt being made into the supercab seats. Is interesting that I haven't seen this mentioned on the board before, both my son and I fell the seats in the Supercrew are uncomfortable compared to the supercab.

nomo,

Yes, the lumbar to me is way too much with the adjustment turned all the way down on the Supercrew seats. As a comparison on the supercab the lumbar has to be turned about half way up to be the same as the Supercrew seats. I'm hoping to hear from someone that has had the lumbar adjusted from the factory setting to see if it can be done.

Unhappy Hmmm...

I'm really FAT (almost no back arch ) plus have a bad back (one back surgery) and can't take much pressure in the lower back area where the lumbar "supports" hit. But, my wife's 02 Lariat with leather bench seats adjusts down far enough that it doesn't bother me. Have you checked both the cloth & leather versions of the bench seat? There might be a difference.

Yes, its both the leather and cloth seats. Actually I started out looking at the Supercrew Lariats and when I noticed how those seats felt I checked the cloth seats and found them to be the same. If your wife's truck is a super cab then the seats in it are the comfortable ones. If it is a Supercrew then maybe the seat fits you differently from me. Since I haven't heard anyone else complain maybe its just me, but my son, who is 2 inches taller, and I are both big guys and both of us think the seats are very noticably different.

If you really want the S'crew, you might try this: Get a small (rather flat) pillow that will fit in the seat bottom. Try sitting on the pillow to see if that makes the seat more or less comfortable. Maybe moving your back up a little bit will reduce the discomfort. If not, try putting the pillow behind your back- between your shoulder blades.

Have you checked out the Super Duty Crew Cabs? Maybe the S'crews uncomfortable seats are a good enough reason to "upgrade".
