whats that pad thing?

i have a 97 supercab and on the left backseat armrest theres a rubbery pad. It looks as though its the cover to a compartment under it, but it doesnt seem to come off. is it just a fancy armrest pad, or is it something that would have a function on an XLT? ( i have an XL)

I don't know for sure what it is but in my 97 XLT, that's where the CD changer was located. Hope this helps.

97 was also the 3 door. If I remember from my Dad'a 97, the left side armrests were different from the door armrests.

My armrest has a cupholder in it (XLT). In the cubbyhole below that is my CD changer.

Matt6383, I have the same thing, and I have come to believe (after playing with it for hours and looking at it from every angle) that it is just decorative and rubber so the passenger there wouldn't have to rest their arm on hard plastic. That is a great cup holder there, though! It is nice and deep, and holds better than the ones in the dash, I think! I may have to work on a "Cupholder Import Mod" that moves it to the driver's door!

I think that's where the assembly line guys hide their moonshine @ the plant.. Does the compartment look like it would be big enough for a 40?
