Question Mounting A Console on hump

I have a communications console (basically a plywood box with 2 way radios mounted inside) that I would like to mount on the floor in front of the front seats. I would like to sit the box on the hump on the floor and somehow fasten it to the floor. Can I somehow screw a piece of wood to the floor? I know nothing about "under the hood/car" types of things.

Thanks in advance,
John DiGiovanni

Lightbulb

I would definitely be cautious about "drilling" anything into the floor. Maybe this idea will work. Remove the plastic threshold plate and kickpanels. That will give you access to the underside of the carpet. Using bolts/screws with a large washer, install them "up" through the carpet (from the underside of the carpet). That way you can attach your console securely to the carpet (not the floor). If you use a large enough washer on the underside, the bolts/screws should be securely attached. This way, you won't be drilling into your vehicle.

Cool

I built a small console, using 1" flat bar steel for brackets. Both attach to the bottom of the console, one straddeling the hump. the other going out the back of the console & bending up , hooking under the seat. This allowed the console to move with the seat (forward/back) but not so loose it would "Fly"

Try attaching the "hard side" of some velcro to the bottom of your console with a staplegun. This stuff will stick to your carpet like crazy and hold the console in place.
