air bag plastic/rubber cover paint

the previous owner had the infinite wisdom to paint the air bag cover (proper name?). i'm not sure if he was attempting to be creative and color match other interior plastic colors and going to a two tone steering wheel, or if the air bag went off (car fax didn't show this, although not 100% accurate).

anyhoo, drives me BONKERS. this isn't like dash plastic, it's softer, more like rubber to me, not a chemist.

wish the search function would work better, i'm sure this has been covered somewhere. either route, i have to remove what's there. hopefully i'll remove the paint, and the rubber cover will be the same color as the rest, if it's not, then i'll go about painting it. what do i remove the paint with, which chemicals and tools? if i have to paint it, does the same hard plastic paint process work for this softer more rubbery flavor of plastic? (prep, cleaner, adhesion promoter, etc.)

Me too . . . They own a bedliner shop and I'd be able to get it sprayed for cheap. Maybe when I run out of mods haha
