Right rear power window

I checked the postings and couldn't find anything on this so if it was already covered, my apoligies. Last night I rolled up my right rear window and when it closed there was a shattering noise and the window wouldn't roll up or down by the controls. The window goes up and down freely. I pulled the panel off, checked it out and found that there maybe something wrong with the motor. It seems to work but it is not working the cable that is used to raise and lower the window. Any ideas what is wrong? Is it something that I can repair myself or do I have to take it to the dealer? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

I took the door panel off and after looking at it I decided that I wasn't about to hack into it. I could determine that the cable part had broke. I took it to the dealership and they said that they have seen it happen a few times. They replaced everything and I saved on labor costs because I already had the panel off.
