Can anybody tell me what the chrome color plastic cap on the gear shifter (2004 F150 Supercrew) is called, or do you know where I can get a replacement or part number? piece broke and cant get it to stay.

from what i've heard you have to buy the whole shifter assembly just to get the little piece. i would use some sort of epoxy to stick it back on, JB weld does wonders.

Just bought a used 05 a couple months ago and the shifter **** was broke when I test drove it so I made the dealership get a new one. All he replaced was the cap so I'm pretty sure you can get the cap only.

I have super glued mine twice. It lasted a few months each time then came off. Ford can't seem to get even the simple stuff right anymore.

EDIT: Just bought a new assembly on Ebay for $55.74 USD, shipping included.

Well so I'm not he only one with this problem. I tried to get just the cap from a dealer and they said I had to buy the assembly, they wanted $88! The cap is still in the console, I'm going to epoxy it back on.

Sure would be nice to have a quality replacement. Real nice for Ford to use plastic for something that is handled every time the truck is driven. Hey Ford, charge another $200 for the truck and put a quality shifter in the damn truck!

What are y'all doing that causes it to break? 5 years and mine's still stuck on good, knock on wood.
