Temperature on overhead display is screwy...

The overhead temperature display on my '04 Heritage is screwy. It will start off displaying the correct temperature then it will go nuts. If it is -24'C out it will sometimes display +50'c or weird crap like that.

What is the best way to fix this other than getting a new one...?

I had that problem during the winter when I was living in Wisconsin and during the summer when I was living in Georgia (read: during periods of extreme temperatures). I removed the thermometer (right behind the grill), sort of brushed it off a bit, and reinstalled it. Since then no problems.

The thermometer is behind the grill???

Where would it be located? That makes total sense to me.

Thanks

You might want to check out this post:

https://www.f150online.com/forums/20...ocation-2.html

Page one talks about an update from the dealer that seemed to fix this issue for some people. If I were you, I'd try cleaning it off before running to the dealer for a fix.

On page two there's a picture of where the sensor is located. It's mounted on the beam right in front of the radiator. Be careful, because there are two sensors there, and one of them is for the airbags.

I didn't mention this in my first post, but I have a 2005, and the temperature reading is actually is my dash, not the mirror. I'm not sure if the Heritages have the sensor mounted in a different place, but for sure the place where the temperature is displayed shouldn't affect anything.

Thanks, I was at it today as I had the plastic cover off in order to change out my headlight bulbs with silver stars.

There really isn't much to that thing is there...
