Heated Seats?

Just got my 2006 F150 King Ranch, and I couldn't find any information on why the heated seats only heat for a short time. I had a 2001 King Ranch, and the seats stayed heated until you turned the switch off, or you turned the truck off. Can anyone explain why the change?

Thanks,

Check the owners manual, I believe they stay on for 10 minutes at a time.

I guess I missed it in the book, do you know why they do that versus the previous year models?

I'm curios about the same thing. They are probably hooked up to a timing relay under the dash. I am going to try to look under there and try to find a way to bypass it. If I find anything I will post again, unless somebody else replys first.

I believe it's to keep the seat and driver from getting too hot. I know when I run mine on high it gets so hot I have to shut it off myself. A lot of the time when I go to shut it off I realize it had just shut itself off.

So I have heated seats on my 03 KR, but the driver one doesn't seem to heat up at all. I think its probably a faulty relay or a frayed wire, but whats the best way to check for the problem?
I was thinking under the seat, but don't wanna go through the trouble of tearing the seat apart...

cornelius,

I had a 2001 KR, and the same problem happened to me. I ended up having to pull the cover (yep, that beautiful leather cover) off of the seat itself and found a broken wire. It's been awhile, but if my memory serves me right, that was a common problem with that year range... 01-03. If that's the problem, it's an easy and inexpensive fix!

Fireman's_KR,
Thanks for that. Not looking forward to messing with the leather! Any insight you could give me on how to remove the leather on the seat so that I can check the wire, and not mess up the leather work in the process?

gotta scratch my head on this one. It's been a few years ago, but I think the cover has some plastic clips that attach in the back lower portion of the seat. My memory is not serving me as well as it should, but I do remember that I didn't have to take the cover all the way off. I just sort of peeled it toward the top of the seat until the wires that led to the warming elements were exposed.

Maybe someone out there can explain it a little better than I can???
