Seat Change out
Seat Change out
Howdy fellas, well a few of you have already seen me post about my stock seat (01, xtl, extended cab, sportcloth tan interior, integrated seat belts) and had a problem with my lumbar support and there are a few holes in the seat from the previous owner etc. Well I was just foolin' with the idea of putting a Sparco Milano2 seat in after xmas (should make enough money too do this swap). THey do have a mounting bracket for it, and I just think it would be kinda cool lol. Is there any way too mount the 4 pt. harness (i know I can get the lap-belt to hook up but that wont pass DOT I have a cop friend who said you can get a seatbelt ticket for it) Sooooo what can i do to mount that harness? Again its just an idea lol

now im not sure on the specifics on this and if im completely wrong some one please correct me.
i think you hafto have a support bar mounted behind the seats (usually welded to the interior or rollbar) that the belts bolt onto. i believe the belts hafto be at a certain angle for safty reasons.
thats the best i can tell ya. search some of the pre-runner, desert racing sites. most of the guys of there have experience with this

Cool thanks! I just emailed a company I was thinking of getting the seat from...they just sent me the same response. Would it be stupid too weld a tube bar behind the seat in an ext. cab? I know the person back there wouldn't be too comfortable but would it make a huge difference do you think?

well i would just tell the people in the back to suck it up cause those seats are sweet
i debated doing in my jeep cherokee but i would of had to weld a full roll cage to make it functional.
the main reason behind the bar is to angle the shoulder straps of the harness so it doesnt cut down into your shoulders in the event of a wreck.
if you dont mind the roll cage i would go ahead with it. one idea you might be able to get away with is to weld a bar along the back of your rear seat if it angles right. that would look very clean and flush.

Very true, yet it would make it undriveable back there. I need more than 3 seats...what about if you just made an upside-down U behind the driver's seat (thats all i'm changing out for now) and had that welded too the floor?

i think as long as the angles are alright and the U is welded in properly then it should be ok. are you sure you cant use the stock seatbelts? ill ask a couple cop friends tonight. i dont see why you couldnt use them. keep me updated with the project id love to see how it turns out! happy thanksgiving!
Belated thanks for the happy thanksgiving lol. The stock seat-belt is imbedded in the seat itself, so if I get rid of the seat I get rid of the seat-belt. I am gonna pull away the rear carpet too see what it looks like (whether one side has too be higher, how flat it is etc) I may end up taking all the carpet out and herculine the whole interior floor (easier too keep up lol) I get in and out of the dang thing so much with muddy boots and stuff the carpet just sucks it all in. The one thing I was thinking of was I can't have the upside down U put in before the seat is (depending on mounting hard-wear it may sit farther forward or backward of the original position) so I'll probably have too squeek to the weld shop without a shoulder restraint lol I know the lap-belt just hooks up to the original points, so no problems with that. How inconvenient do you think it would be too have a 4pt. harness in there? I do some off-roading, and may start pre-running in the truck for one of my friends off-roading teams (little private team not known too anyone lol but its fun). Thanks for the interest, now I wish my bank-account would back my dreams up faster lol.

its not that bad, i prefer them to reg seatbelts theyre more comfortable and you feel more secure. i looked at your gallery and it looks like your going to hafto lose the back seat for a 4 pt. harness. and if your going to do the driver seat you might as well do the passanger seat too haha. what seats are you considering?
Sparco Milano1...Milano2 would be nice but its a lot more expensive. I can afford to loose the back seat behind the driver, If anything that U will just be an inconvenience for whoever is sitting behind me. (I want too put it as close too the drivers seat as possible the U that is) I drive with the seat very straight up anyway, but back as far as possible (i hate leaning back just uncomfortable for me, also makes me want too go to sleep on those long 28 hour drives to colorado lol) I would do the passenger as well, BUT it has the center console and stuff, so we would be talking, an EXPY console, 2 seats, 2 upside down U's (that starts getting unbearably expensive for what I just want too do now) Plus the passenger seat is in superb condition, as is the center console.

your upside down u bar is a great idea but with one problem... the angle of the belts will be way to extreme. and in the event of a collision the belts will cut down into your shoulders causing some pretty bad damage to you. the bar has got to be at least flush with the back of the cab and you might be alright. when I've installed them in CRXs and suburus the bar was about 3ft back from the seat allowing us to adjust the angle.
another option is to take out the carpet like you said and weld the OEM seatbelt buckle to the floor and rig up a system to use the OEM seatbelt. it would be the cheapest way to go about this. i think the 4pt belts are a bit out of reach unless your ready to shed some serious cash and turn this thing into a full blown race rig.
as far as the seats go do some shopping around. especially the jeep websites. i knew alot of guys who used corbeau http://www.racing-seats-usa.com/racingseats1.html
those seats are amazing. very comfortable and virtually bulletproof. i would love a set for my truck
