Not much to add, other than that I agree with you. Why is it that the Japanese and European cars look pretty good for a long time, and American leather only looks good for 20,000-30,000 miles? I'll do my best never to have a truck with leather seats.
Its all in how you take care of them just like anything else, if you go 3 years untreated then they dry out and crack but if you replenish the oils in them atleast twice a year then they will look good and stay supple forever unless you are really hard on them then its time for some seat covers or a trip to the junkyard?
yea well i had no contro lover taking care of the leather, i bought it liek that from a guy. what else u expect?
yea but only thing with seat covers is they will slide liek a mother since its on leather unless they have special ones meant for leather.

I'd put seat covers on, They will be less expensive and will be easy to replace when you tear a hole in them or spill a large cup of coffee. Consider custom fit or semi-custom fit.
My next seat covers will be of the "wet suit" type. I currently have cheap cloth type covers now, they do a good job of keeping the mud and dirt off the seats but don't last long.
The "wet suit" type do fade bad. Watch out. My friend has a dodge truck and his wet okle (sp?) seat covers faded from dark blue to a bleached out powder blue in 1 1/2 years. He even used sun protectant as recommended. I think dark window tint would help with this. (15% or less)

Not all of us use trucks for work. I wouldnt buy a truck without carpet, and I think leather is the best way to go. Fabric is too easy to stain, leather doesnt pose that problem. Also if you cant maintain leather, you'll be screwed with cloth.
