Moon roof question

Hello all,

I'm new to the forum. I recently bought a 2001 supercrew 4X4 with a moon roof and have an issue I was hoping to get an answer to.

I did a cursory search but did not find anything definitive.

The Moon roof works fine. The inside cover slides back with the window. But does not move forward. I can move it by hand. With the cover moved back, I can hear this metal slide moving forward and backward at starts and stops.

Is this something that can be fixed without going to a dealership and if so what are the steps involved?

Thanks.

I believe the fact that you have to close the inside "shade" manually is by design. I had an 05 Focus with a moonroof that worked the same way, and the moonroof my 03 Screw is the same also (and FWIW, the moonroof in my wife's Town and Country also). Not sure about the metal slide noise though.

Dose your roof vibrate while driving?? Mine is really bad so I don't use it that much... and yes you do have to manualy slide the shield shut but for the noise it sounds like a dealer fix..

Thanks for the replies.

I had come to the conclusion that it must have to be manually shut. No problem there.

The part I have a problem with is a piece the spans the width of the shade and seems to have the ends in a L shape over the left and right side of the shade.

When slid forward it seems to mate up to a screw on either side that looks like they might be intended to hold it in place. It has a rubber 'seal' on top that runs the length of it.

I took some pictures, at night so please excuse the bad quality, to try to illustate what I am talking about.

In this picture, the blue line runs across the front of the shade. The red line runs across the front rubber portion of the piece that is sliding: http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...-4185_IMG2.jpg

In this picture, you can sort of make out the screw mentioned earlier with the sliding piece pushed up to it: http://i167.photobucket.com/albums/u...-4183_IMG2.jpg

I'm not sure what the piece is supposed to be connected to, if any, and if not, why it makes so much noise.

Thanks.

I had the same problem with the same piece on my moonroof in my '02 supercrew king ranch. I ended up pulling that piece out because of the rattling, couldn't find what to connect it to. I haven't had any problems with the operation of the roof or any leaking problems and it has been out for a year now.
