floor mat clip

i have a 97 f150 xlt and when i bought it it had crappy rubber floor mats in it so i spent the money and got some new ones but when i put them in there was no clip on the drivers side for the mat to hold. my buddy who has an 01 has a clip but i dont. there is no sign of it, no snapped clip, no hole in the carpet, nothing. and it makes me mad cuz when i let my buddy drive i always find it shoved way up underneath my dash. im wondering if this is a factory defect or is this how the 97's were. and is there any way i can fix it.

Im not sure if they came in all 97's, but of course you can DIY. Just takes a little work you know (Very little). Maybe going to the junkyard and taking one would get you started. My recommendation now that i think about it is to take one off a Mitsubishi Galant 00-04. I had one and reason being is because the clip is like a snap set-up by which i mean the clip will clip on to itself. Just cut to tiny holes in your carpet and slide the clip in and snap it down and your done.

Take a look at one and you'll see what i mean, but its only my suggestion and i hope i helped any.
